My buddy with the turbo 5.0 was talking about how there is a limit to how much boost you can run on 93 octane gas. Anyone know what it is?
Andrew
ps a boost per octane chart or formula would be really helpful, I just bought a turbo CBR 929 rr with a built motor.

i think its slightly more dynamic than just a chart. you could run 20 lbs of boost on pump or maybe even 30, but youd have to retard the timing and richen it up quite a bit. thats where higher octane comes in, you can regain your 'lost' power by retuning it for higher octane. but i could be wrong?

There are too many variables to consider. original compression, cam LSA, instercooler capacity, compressor efficiency, then of course timing and a/f.

so what about my truck? 6# on it22's with stock cam and intercooler? normal tuning on the chip.

It is getting close I don't run over 4# on daily drivers or vehicles that need to be reliable. It is all in the tune as to help the motor stay together. The intercooler water will heat up a lot faster and take longer to cool down. So it is okay for controlled drag racing but highway racing will tear it up faster.

Way too many variables...I've seen 300zx's running 20+ on pump gas.

so am I supposed to tell how much boost is safe to put on this turbo bike i bought? Is there a way to tell?

Honestly best way is to get it dyno tuned. I would also get on cycle forums and ask around....gauranteed it's been done before.

I think 6-8lbs is all you can drive it with. As it sits you'll need a crazy extended swingarm and 200 tire to get any traction.

you guys were right about the 6-8 psi on pump gas. I had asked the guy about it last night. right now it is running at 10 psi and you put 8 drops of octane booster into the tank. the dude plugs his laptop into it while its on the dyno and makes custom maps for the power commander. I better get him to teach all this crap to me before he dissappears.
