R134A is in most newer cars. It is a cranky freon known as a blend it is made up of 3 individual freons mixed into one. Problem is when a 134system leaks out or it gets a little low it doesn't work well at all. It seperates as a vapor and is no longer 134A. If it has leaked you are supposed to evacuate the system, repair and recharge with R134A as a liqud so the gases don't seperate. General pressures are 30-40 suction and 150-200 head for 134A in cars.

You are not supposed to because as stated. Once it has leaked out what you have left is not 134A anymore.

thanks for your imput I really apreciate it I have a hook up with the manager at a jiffy lube so I
ll take it there to get evacuated and recharged. Oh by the way do you know of anyone or anywhere I can get a/c hoses for my 92 pickup?
I'm doing a motor swap with Gt40 heads and a B302 cam and since the a/c doesn't work might as well get it going also.
Thanx

If it is an R-12 system then it takes regular a/c gauges with a high side adapter from AutoZone. You can find them in Pawn shops or a new manifold with hoses is around $60 bucks from Grainger.

Some conversions use the old hoses just look and see if they are smaller 1/4 screw ons or large snap ons. The old style is cheap in the refrigeration industry and the new style is probably cheapest through AutoZone.
