Has anybody had this problem coming from the right side of their motor? Some people have told me that it might be an exhuast leak or a belt. Has anybody have a clue what this might be? Need help!!!!

sounds like a plug is about to go...you need to check them quick before you have to replace the head

what would cause a spark plug to make a tapping noise and is Bill Utter Ford a good place to take it?

:( when my truck was making a tapping noise (exhaust leak) it was because one of my plugs was loose. Two days later, it launched a plug. I needed a new head, went to Don Davis in Arlington, my truck was out of warranty. They paid 75% of the cost. I only ended up paying 495.00 total. They were fantastic to deal with, they gave me no problems, and the truck was done in four days. Try to avoid not having to get a new head, get your plugs tightened up. Hopefully that will fix your problem.:tu:

hey atleast you get head...jk

the plugs have a tendency to back themselves out of the head, most say due to the heads only having 4 plug threads and innacurate torqueing

I'm going up to Bill Utter Ford right now to meet with a SVT specialist. They are wanting me to leave my truck. Should i leave it just for them to tighten the plugs. And thank you for all your input!]

You can leave it if you want, but I would just check yourself. just remove the coils one at a time and if you can turn any of the plugs with your fingers, then you have a problem. I dont trust ford. I had a tapping sound, shot a plug out, let ford put a new head on, checked my plugs a week later and 3 of them came out with just my fingers. Its like they are trying to get things to go wrong for more business..........

The SVT specialist is now saying that my warranty is void and that it is problem in my exhaust or the valve train. Then, ran a diagnostics test and said that I used to have a super chip in it and that is the casue of the problem.

Thats priceless... get it in writing..

They dont know what is causing the noise BUT because you had a chip it has to be caused by the chip...

Ford is reaching new lows....

Well, did you?
I told you you should have done it yourself. Now you need to pray to the truck gods or bribe the tech so that they wont enter your "status" into the oasis system. If they dont, you can just clear the computer and go somewhere else. You should have asked us first before going to the dealer. We would have made sure you didnt get voided:nono:

We called SVT themselves and they are going to try to handle it! The tech named Allen Foss also told me that the plugs are a maintanence issue and that they are our responsibility!

That has to be some kinda ****in' joke. Seriously. The only reason it is a maintenence issue is because of a DESIGN DEFECT. SPARK PLUGS SHOULD NOT BACK OUT ON THEIR OWN.

I love my truck, but I won't be around for Round 2(next Lightning or Cobra) if this crap keeps up.

It also gets REAL hard to feel sorry for dealerships being screwed(see FlatRateTech) when they shirk their responsibility to diagnose the problem properly and just blame it on a chip. I sure miss the good ol' days of Customer Service.

Guess what! Wives are the most wonderful things! She got it fixed. She call them and asked them to look at the spark plugs just to humor her and they did! It is now fixed because that was the problem and Bill Utter Ford did for free! Now that was customer service!!!! And all due to my lovely wife!

D@mn! You guys are concerning me! 6,580+ miles on the '02 rig and I haven't checked mine yet...The last year of the "short-threaded" spark-plug head design from what I can research.

Only a chikenears PS air-filter on mine so far and bone-stock.

I thought it was early 03's.. that even some of the early 03's had the short threads, then the new heads were being installed..

just tell them you changed you mind any you dont want them to work on it. Since they didnt actually do anything at your (not wife's) request they should have no just cause for making an entry, due to the fact that they did not attempt to repair anything.

If I were you I would try everything possible to keep form getting a "voided" status on oasis. I had to give my tech a c note to stay scott-free when they found my n20 evidence.

SVT has contract agreement that they cannot challenge or over turn a warranty decision made by Ford MoCo. I learned that on my motor and backed it up on a customers truck. I talked with Tom Scarpello @ SVT when I blew my motor and he informed me of this policy. He did offer to get Ford to get me new parts at cost but who wants more crap ass Ford parts:vomit:
