I got a note on my door last week stating that my rent was going up ~ $50 per month if I renew. A couple of days later Mark and I noticed that my truck had been keyed. The next day we got a letter on our doors that a car had been keyed in the apartment. I told the apartment complex that mine had been keyed also and they were like "sorry bout that, bye bye now." Looks like its time to move on. This really pisses me off! :flaming:

I am paying $584/mo. The complex is really nice its an AMLI apartment complex. Its too bad that the place had gone down hill so badly with the quality of residents that are there these days.

I have been checking around and rent is going up at most places. One I really liked on the east side of the tollway @ 190 wanted $725/mo on special for their smallest 1 bedroom no garage or covered parking! SHEESH!

I have to give a 60 day notice at my current place so I need to sort it out before the end of the month. :(

have you thought about renting a small house instead? might end up being a better deal for you... also, give you a garage to put the sled into at night.. place to wrench too

The payment for my house is less than the second payment you listed. Its no castle BUT its more than enough for me. That doesnt include taxes or insurance BUT dont forget you could split the house with a roomate.

AND my house has increased in value over 40k in the 7 or so year I owned it.. Cant beat that

well that would be buying a small house.. but you do bring up a great point, esp now that interest rates are so low.. you can sell or rent it later... just think Crawford the landlord.. :roll

Renting buying - what ever- real estate is a tough investment to beat

If you are in the market for a $750 plus a month appt you need to look at a house. Trouble is a few years ago when I was looking to rent it was REALLY tough to find a decent house for rent in north dallas for under 1200 a month

I cant beleive that the rates have gone down in 8 years - But the same 1200 a month will make the payment on a mortage. The rates are in the 5's its a great time to look if you can swing it

That sux, Crawford. It's a shame people have to stoop so low.

The problem with renting is they have you by the nuts once the initial lease expires. They raise your rent and if you don't want to pay the new amount you're out on your ass. Plus you have the pain of moving. I was in my apartment for for nearly 4 years and the rent kept going up. Finally we got fed up, outgrew the place anyway, and opted to build. Now's a good time to get in, because if you have decent credit and a few bucks to put down (or not, the choice is yours), you can get into a decent house. I pay a few 100 more than I was paying when we left the apartment, and I have a lot more living space and privacy to boot. In the 3 years we've been in this house the value has gone up nearly $30K, so the investment is good.....

They're building tons of houses up here in the boondogs...come on up!

..... or rent one side of a Duplex. The ones in East Dallas all have garages, at least the good ones do. Even the 1 Bdr, 1 Bath. Don't know about N. Dallas.
Lots of good options out there right now.:tu:

I dont think a house is in the cards for me right now. I have the credit for sure but I dont have anything to put down and I dont make enough money to be able to afford the payments w/ insurance and taxes. I dont know if I could find a roommate and if I went forward with it and lost the roommate I would be SOL. Too risky.

For example:

$120,000 for 30yrs @ 5% = about $645 per month.
Add taxes and insurance which I have no idea how much that would be, surely over $1000 per month.

Until I increase my income I am stuck like chuck unless I trade the L in on a used Honda! :roll

I'm not looking for something to live in ........ I'm looking for investment property.
The higher end is tough to keep rented.
Jeez, I could live in a 1-1-3 :roll

But, your house would make an established family a very nice home ...

You do that and I will personally come over there and kick ur ass! Too many guys dropping their Lightnings around here...

OK, OK, so I have a Honda in the driveway, too. Makes a decent daily driver to whail on while you leave the Lightning in the garage resting. Too bad it has absolutely no power.

Best of luck on your living arrangement endeavor. If you need some help moving (if you decide to move), you'll have plenty of trucks to help!

"Tom da' L-regulata'" ! :roll I'm considering a daily-driver or something. Maybe one of the earlier 5.0 Mustangs (square-headlights) or a Gen 1 L (they're getting down pretty cheap! ~$7K+). Good hunting/fishing truck.

Crawford,

I've had brand-new (at the time) 2000 F-150 stolen while in Tulsa and they came back for the 2nd NEW 2000 truck (slim-jim scratches on the side windows ...handprints on back glass slider and footprints in the bed).

Get outta' Dodge and a better place NOW before you find the L gone in the morning!

BUT, I'm in west Plano in an apt (for now) and they've had people trying to pry the mailbox fronts open in the middle of the night (presumably for income tax returns). :hammer::throw::flaming:.

Keep an eye on the L and get out now! Just my $.02...

Ronald

BTW, sorry to hear about the hood! Sorry b@stards!
