Service engine light comes on and when we scan it, it says" excessive backflow through EGR". Anyone know what causes this? Any help would be appreciated, I don't want to take it to the dealer.
Thanks,
Jeff.

Thanks,
Jeff.humm, sounds like your egr valve may be sticking open. could be the vacc line or just a bad valve. is it coming back after you clear the code?

AndrewYeah, it comes back. Just recently found out egr is stuck open. I removed egr and the tube that goes to the exhaust manifold. Capped off with a fitting I got at Ace hardware at the manifold, and installed a plate over the hole using the same gasket where the egr valve was. Truck is finally running smooth again and the light has remained off for now. :tu:
If anyone is wondering why I took out my egr valve, the dealer wanted $98.00 for a new one. I paid about $10 for the stuff to take take it out. I have read all the post on F150online, everyone has different opinons. All I know is my truck is running good, I saved $90 bucks, and my ses light is off.:D

AndrewI dont thunk anyone buys a lightning , mods it out , and expects to get good fuel economy. I dont think the word good goes in any sentence that involves mileage in a lightning.:D

I think you've got a point there. BTW you can buy the EGR at O'reilly or other partstores that carry motorcraft for a lot less than $98. I bought one for $48.

Just make sure that when you've got it plugged off that it doesn't run too lean in cruising mode. Should be ok since in closed loop, but not sure the computer compensates or not.

I doubt the EGR was leaking most likely the control valve holding it open. It is a common failure among many Fords. I think it is a nono to block off the EGR without programing for it. It should throuw a code soon. Those two little tubes off the EGR line go to a trasducer that tell the computer whether the EGR is flowing or not.

If is stuck open would it cause a rich or lean condition?

The lightning is parked right now and I am driving the Toyota so I got time to get my chip situation fixed. Also, I would like to give a shout out to my buddy Rob for talking me into buying the chip I am currently running. :hammer:  Your lucky I like you Rob or I would come over ther and..........and....:flaming:

So are you saying that since Steve bought a chip from someone else, you wont answer his question. Aren't you a tuner? Answer the question.

I would like to make a comment, just a comment that needs to be said.
I have only known Steve(99whitebeast) for a couple of months. Steve is one of the nicest people in the L community that I have met. Steve more than goes out of his way to help myself, JcBlack and other lightning owners with anything they ask, or need. I could not tell you how many times I have been in his garage working on my truck. Oil changes, pulley swaps, plug changes, etc. I think he is a huge asset to talon and to other lightning owners, as displayed by the talon stickers on both his L,s and his genuine kindness. If anyone asks Steve a question I believe he would try to answer it to the best of his ability. If anyone needed something for their truck, or needed to borrow something, I promise you there would be no hesitation. Steve, thanks for being such a good friend.

Rob, Jake, Mark,....I guess you guys are allright too!
