View Full Version : Last Test and Tune At Ennis for the season.......

03LightningRocks

This Saturday is the last test and tune for the season. The track will be closed until Feb. after that.

The day will be what they refer to as "ultimate street day". This is where they do instant greens and no times are shown on the clock. Your slip will only have your time on it...not the other guys.

I hope to see some of y'all there. Doug...it would be a good chance to get those new slicks broken in.

Im there! That 13.3 felt prety good last week but this time Im going to shed a few pounds, add slicks and a little ole 75 shot to spice things up. What do ya think 11.8 maybe? I wieghed in last week at 5125lb. I figure I can shed at least 500lb.'s that should put me at 12.8 or 9 all motor. I dont know if a 75 shot is good enough for a sec. but it should be close

75 has been killing .5 sec on most L's. It would be closer to a 125 shot for a full second. You are going to need traction bars for that sir:tu:

That would be fun also. I plan on being at the gates when they open. It gives me a shot at cooler temps.

I know I will be ready to leave way before 5.

So it sounds like I'll be at IHOP for breakfast and then Bonedaddy's for dinner.

oh crap! am I going to be in trouble? Do you really think I might do that? You wouldn't be the first one, I've seen three so far. One had traction bars and didn't preload them. You can get some muffler clamps and put around your leaf springs in the front and the rear to help some, but I only did that with street tires and could still see some marks on the driveshaft u-joint from hitting. I can imagine with a good hooking track and slicks that it could be worse.

I was not sure but I thought there was an IHOP just after you exit off of 45 into Ennis.

I have only driven to Ennis the 35 route once. It takes almost twice as long for me since I live closer to 75, in Plano.

Everything else is in Cedar Hill, Hillsboro, Dallas, Mesquite.

You know, we could meet up at the IHOP in RIchardson off of 75 and roll down together....

so whats the deal? does the axle spin around and bind the drive shaft up against the under body?

02BOLT
11-20-2003, 11:15 PM
so whats the deal? does the axle spin around and bind the drive shaft up against the under body?

When you launch on slicks, they "dig" in. Upon this, the axle wants to "wrap" up, thus causing the driveshaft and rear U-joints to be at a severe angle in relationship to the rear end.

"Lift" Bars attach to the rear axle and extend under and attach to the frame of the truck about 4' or so up from the rear axle. Upon launch, the bars transfer the axle "wrap" to the frame which does two things...

1. Extensively reduces the amount of axle "wrap", which keeps the angle of the driveshaft at a much safer trajectory in reference to the rear end.

2. Transfers the "wrap" into "lift" by way of the bar, which helps pick the front of the truck up, which simultaneously improves the truck's ability to "plant" the rear tires.

Hope this helps.:tu:

Maint. I don't give a chit if it's dirty. I just changed the oil last week end. I pulled all my plugs last week and gapped them to .040. Lets see now. I checked the air in the tires and like the air pressure. I don't think I need no stinkin maintenance.

But the biggest reason is.......I have a schedule to keep and Friday morning is the only way I can go.:hammer:

TomI have an issue Tom. Terry is giving me hell about running with my tranny the way it is. He's probably right, but that doesn't make it easier.

Apparently, running the truck down the track with the problem I have can frag the whole darned tranny, making repair a bigger pain in the ass.

This sh!t just plain focking sux!!!!!!!!!!!!!:hammer: :hammer: :hammer:

I'll let you know what I decide to do. I am leaning towards doing what he says. He is going to be rebuilding it the week after Thanksgiving, getting me set for Hallsville. I sure would hate to creat a situation where I get poked out of Hallsville.
