In the past I have had oil changes at 500, and 1500 miles then every 3000 miles on all my new cars. My reasoning is a new motor breaking in will generate some metal and I want to get it out of the filter, am I right or am I throwing money away ?

I dunno but valvoline 5w-30 synthetic is sweet!!!!!!!!! Just never ever use a fram filter or you will get that dredded piston slap at start up!!!!!!!! it doesnt have an anti-drain back valve like the motorcrafts do..... hope that helps!!!!!!!!

I run Mobil1 5-30, I use Motorcraft 5-20 for break ins. I also run the Mobil $10 filters but the $3 Motorcraft FL-820S is probably a decent filter. I also think 4K miles is an acceptable interval. Check it at least every 1K miles. I usually smoke a quart every 1K.

Me too:tu: . With one exception. I use the motorcraft filter and change it by pass number at the track.:eek2: Every 10-12 passes. This also includes some drive time in between track visits and to and from track. So it isn't as often as it sounds.

Fram makes 3 or 4 different models, I think all of them except for the cheapest one have the check valve in them...

Terry is right yet again. Oil is the life blood of your engine. If more people would just change thier oil more often, the occurance of engine failures (except maybe some particularly highly tuned engines) would be reduced.:tu:
