Laney,
I have several books I can loan you for a while.
If your preference is to go down the Microsoft path:
4 books on programming VB6 databases.
3 books on SQL language.
Also, I have VB6 Professional Edition if you want to install it.

However, PHP and MySQL have become very popular as Web Based solutions and will run on Windows or *nix based machines. So all you learn can be applied to many OS's, not just Windoz.
Good example is the Talon discussion Group.
So your not only building business databases but also gets you into the Web Design arena, as well.
The books on SQL language would be very helpful in this scenario, too.

All of my websites run on a *nix server
The Forum, the photogallery, the contact database and other applications are PHP and mysql based. When I look for additional appliactions to add I try to make sure they are based the same way for consitency and ease of use....

Doug, what books would you recommend to learn that stuff on your own. I know SQL fairly decent, but have not done VB or web design. i was wanting to get started on some of this, and may finally have something in mind to actually use it for.

I just used books to slve specific problems - Didnt really get a web stuff for dummies book or aanything.

My recommendation would be to find a domain name you like - register it and JUMP IN ... Experience is a great teacher
