Terry when I idle the truck I hear a rattle (not real loud) coming from the engine. If i lightly give it gas the rattle goes away. Any idea? Bad tank of gas maybe? This is the first time I've heard it. Makes me weary about going to Hallsville this Sat.

When you add a lower pulley(2lb., 4lb. etc.) it usually makes a rattling noise which I believe is called cavitation? 02bolt knows what I am talking about, Rob, you there?

I would bet my bottom dollar that it is indeed cavitation. It is somewhat of a grumbling noise that is audible at idle. It should go away immediately off of idle, or at least by 1500 rpm. Don't panic! This is not hurting a dadgum thing!

What happens is this...basically, when you install a larger lower pulley (4# and up), you are spinning the blower faster at ANY given rpm. At idle, the blower is spinning faster (-vs- the stock pulley) and thus trying to ingest more air. However, the throttle body is still at idle position, so it's only letting in "so" much air. The result is the grumbling noise you hear...which is called cavitation.

Quoting Terry, "It is the sound of POWER!", upon my calling him (freaking out!) soon after installing the 4# lower on my truck. As I mentioned before, as SOON as you apply throttle, the noise should go away. Some blowers may be a little more audible than others. All should be fine though. Hope this helps bro!:tu:

Stop by the shop if you are worried and I will give you the new switch cord while you are here. Mine Eaton sounds like a box of rocks at idle sometimes. Remember "Loose is Fast":tu:
