Has anyone else noticed that Ft Worth has put K-band radar transmitters on all of their school buses? And these suckers aren't wimpy, they saturate the area for half a mile...

Yeah, I mentioned it a while back. It really sucks becasue they are soem strong units. Theyre are black boxes over the drivers head on the front and one on the rear.

Over their head?! That's kinda scary, I thought prolonged exposure to radar waves was suspected to cause cancer?

give your kids their daily healthy dose of radiation by letting them ride the bus

What is the reason for them putting those on the busses?

I've noticed that too. It flashes K band until I get within 100 yard or so and then my radar detector says "safety vehicle"

That may be the same setup that the Fire dept. uses to trip the lights at an intersection.

Not to get :0fftopic or be a :postwhore so that I might get :banned :crying: , but I was driving in to the office on Friday on I-79 from a quick trip out to Albion. Anyway, the cops here use old radar and usually dont have them on. I have been dinged by laser but only by the ones they have set up at stoplights to catch the folks that run them. Anyway, my V1 detector goes off and it seems unusual.. so I slow down and hiding behind the concrete foot of the overpass was an officer in a powder blue unmarked car with the radar gun hanging out:bs .. just had to tell the story..

Mikeno, its not. the fire depo uses an MIRT (mobile infared transmitter) to trip them. it requries line of sight and is IR, not RF. and for only $300 you can have one too. no comment as to wether I can personlly attest to them working:evil .

RocksSo people will slow down around the precious children:bs . As Andrew stated pre emption systems use light not frequency. And a lot of cities are disabling them because of citizens abusing the system:rolleyes:
