Got an email today that an upcoming track day has some slots. I plan to be there. It's a great deal, since they run the track 'open' all day. You just get in and run until you need a break. Most of the folks there have extensive experience, but there are instructors if newbies want to join in. BEST PART: you can take passengers. This is one of the few organizations that I know of that will let you do so.

Ed Paez needs another 10 customers to hold the MSR Jan 22nd track day.

Basically it's 7 hours of open track time for $245 per person, plus $50 for a co-driver in the same car.

First come first served.

I think there are more details at www.edpracing.com
Great bunch

Maybe a dumb question, but where is Motorsport Ranch located at? (Houston)
Do you need the special track tires? :evil
Wonder how much the morning beginer class is????

Granbury

No

No classes, just one big open track :D

It shows this in the fine print...thus my question about "classes"...If I am reading corectly, you must take a morning class if you have never done this before and they determine if you can run solo in the afternoon.
"*Beginners are welcome but will be required to take a morning
training session and will be evaluated for solo runs in the afternoon. "

You are correct Doug, I believe the road/street/highway is 377.
Also, I believe Terry shop was there BEFORE he move to his present location. :)

That track is freakin awesome. Did my first "On Track" there in 99.

I would be all over that if cash was in hand- not a good time of the year for splurging.

Terry could give more info as the "shop" was once located out there.

Yep, I was there in 2001 when Terry still had that shop location.

Awesome place with tons of "Bling" Cars & Trucks there. :nana2

I had a shop out there almost two years and got tired of everyone whining about the drive. It is like they didn't appreciate a tuner on a private road course. Instead of a shop in a strip mall:rolleyes: . I really appeciate the guys that made the trip out there: MadMax, Ford, Greg, Matt, Mark, Dennis, David N, David W, Scott, and many others:bows. I loved working out there and taking customers around the track in various cars, trucks. It is South of Cresson which is in between Benbrook and Granbury. Every day before I drove home I would cut a couple of laps and all was right in the world for a moment:beer: . It is a tight track with mostly off camber turns. It is not a horse power track and Mazda Miatas hold some records there:hammer: . Bring plenty of brakes if you plan on running hot. It doesn't make sense for me to pay $245 when I can drive on my membership any other weekend. I thought about working a Talon track day but don't think the interest is here to get enough people paid up. Here is a pic of the old shop.

ah, gotcha. the training session is a very brief (20 minutes?) run-down of the basics. then you can go out with an instructor. if you've run a road course before at any other event, you can probably solo by noon. if not, the instructors are quite good. one of the guys took me for a ride in his race-prepped cobra R. it was hella fast :D

http://www.svtgalleries.net/gallery/data/500/15DSC00206.JPGAre those the two twin/gutted/caged Cobra Rs out of Houston with the "older" pilots behind the wheel?

If so, they were regulars at Hallet recently - they travel in pairs. They've run STRONG behind Stan and the other old-school Cobras.

I didn't know they were twins but yes that was Joe one of the old guys. He is down in Houston and is a cool guy. He shook my hand after the TMS event above. He said he never expected a truck to run like that:banana: . It was the best run I had in 2002. And yes it is a full race car. I almost had the duel on video:hammer:

Hey Guys,

Just thought this old guy would jump in and invite everyone to Motor Sports Ranch on Feb 7th & 8th for a Drivers Edge event. Andy and I will be there with our Cobra R's (gutted race cars...lol..) Hey, the car is as it came from the factory except I have installed a cage, belts, and gauges for safety...

If anyone would like a ride just come by and I will take you for a spin. We will be running the track backward and it is sure a blast. I will be running in the red group so if there is some Lightning's who want to play, jump in this group. It sure was fun running with Terry at Texas Motor Speedway a couple years ago. That truck can haul butt..lol..

Hope it is ok for me to sign up with your site even tho I do not have a Lightning.

Later,
Joe

Great to hear from you Joe:beer: . I have since installed a built forged motor with another 70hp nearing 500 rw. I also tuned the suspension a bit more raising front spring rate. I built a more durable brake ducting system. I cracked my Brembos that weekend at TMS, :rll: . The Hoosiers and R4 race pads made a little too much heat. My Brembo rep said they were cooling down to fast is why the cracked. I think whoa'ing a 4800lb truck is why the cracked:banana: . I had a real good track time at HPT last Sept. I enjoyed running with you or anyone that that can play it hot and still be in control. Your car also had the two piece Brembo rotors but we know why (stock breaks). I didn't understand the event was DE usually those are two day classes. It was represented as a open track day. Nice talking to you and happy tracking to those who participate:tu: .

As far as I'm concerned, with a Cobra R, you can probably sign up anywhere you want!:tu: I was out there that day (at TMS), and that was the first time I'd ever gotten to see a Cobra R in action. That car was OFF THE HOOOOOK!!!

When is that event again? I'd damn near give my left --- to ride in a Cobra R on an open track!

Take it easy,
Rob:burnout:

Oh yeah, it sounded kick a$$ too.

Apparently it is a Driver's Edge school, they travel form track to track with instructors and you learn to drive.

Terry,

You Lightning sure sounds sweet. Sure would love to see it at Motor Sports Ranch Feb 7th & 8th.

Following is the web site for anyone interested in attending one of the Drivers Edge events:

Take care guys. Drive safe and have fun like there is no tomorrow. :tu:

Joe,
I need to hurry up/retire ! :nana2

Your Cobra R (and your nemesis/twin) were a sight to behold at Hallett back in the day. http://www.hallettracing.com/ . You men ran STRONG ... door-handle-to-door-handle!

When I've exited Stan's L back in the day, I was shaking like a leaf! :eek2: Afterwards, he said he noticed that I kept wiping my sweaty-palms on my pant legs though-out the course while grabbing the interior-supports.

Crazy!

Ronald

This is why I like the shop at MSR, actual race cars to play with. Yes a nascar is a good road racer:tu: . Here are a few pics in the shop. One is David's old 2002 HD straight form the dealer. He is beside a Porshe turbo race car. Somewhere I have a pic of my truck next to the F40 his track beater.
