How's it going guys? My name is Dru and I just wanted to say hi to all of you guys because I'm about to buy a lightning. I'm 19..living with grandma in carrollton, but currently living in Austin and going to UT. I'm trying to find a dark blue 04 (not the sonic blue..but the midnight blueish color), long story. Basically we've (me and brothers won a lawsuit) inherited some money and i'm going to buy me a lightning. I hear the blues are hard to find, so I might have to order one. Just wanted to say hi to you guys and look forward to owning a lightning. I'm coming to dallas on monday to test drive one and see if it's what I want. If I order they told me it'll be six weeks so hopefully I can get that done monday if I have to, then back here to austin for school. But the day that bad boy comes in on the truck I'll be heading back to pick it up ;) Just curious if any of you guys had a blue one (not sonic)..and I plan on putting the hard cover...I will keep you guys posted on my adventures here, but I should be buying/ordering the truck in the next week or two.

dru
welcome
take a look around TALON forum for ideas what a good price is.. Even though you got an ins award there is no sense in giving more to the dealer than you need to ..

You can't find one because they only made true blue in 02:D . Your only choices are possibly white, red, black, silver, and sonic blue. They made dark shadow gray in 03. I would NOT order one and wait 6 weeks. They are sitting on lots everywhere and you can get them around 29K like Aggie Mom did. Don't get stuck for sticker 33,2K whatever it is because you have a settlement to burn on a new car. I would also fincance it if you can get a good interest rate. I have seen TOO many friends get a settlement at a young age and blow it on a car. They have nothing to show for 30-50K dollars in 5 years. I just want to pass on a little wisdom here, do as you wish:tu:
My brother is a 4th year student at UT as well, use to be NAVY ROTC.

Flip side is if he finances it and blows the money he will be stuck with a payment he cant afford and Ins he cant afford. And REALLY have nothing to show for it.
I personally think he should do the normal 19 year old thing buy a big ole beater - Prepay a years insuarnce and put the rest in a 10 year CD ....
If he REALLY needs money he can always borrow against the CD at nearly zero interest...
This is advice from a lightning owner who got a settlement at age 21 and learned a painful lesson or 2. Now 20 years later I am smarter. I havent had a car payment since 95 or so ..... I do have a boat payment though... knana

Good Advice Doug, while I never got an insurance settlement, I did finance the timeshare with a CD and since I can claim it as a mortgage, the cost is zero after tax savings.. plus when I get the thing paid off in about 2.5 more years, I will have the CD plus interest for something else, like another new vehicle..

Allright, well we know people at a dealership in dallas, and a cousin that works for SBC said he might be able to work something, so i'll definitely be looking for the best deal. And as far as investing goes, the money is locked away in some gov't personal injury claim (lost mother to fen-phen), grows 8-10% annually..but he said anything we want to spend in the next 3 years you might as well take off the top...so im taking enough out to buy this truck cash/check and then pay for school the next 2-3 years. Already talked to the insurance company, and the way i've got it structured this settlement will be coming until i'm 35...so over the course of these 15 years ill be taking money out and investing that into cd's/ira/(have a relative that trades) etc. I can't go get money out of this anytime I want so I have to structure it to the penny now before I sign off on it..until every dime is paid out. So I plan on getting it all done by the time i'm 35-40. I'll probably look for the sonic blue/ or red now then...test driving the sonic blue tomorrow at middlekauf? ;p hehe can't wait guys. Only thing that was holding me back is the gas mileage, but I can afford to use it as the daily driver (seeing as I won't be driving too terribly much over the next few years except summers/trips back to dallas) ;) I look forward to meeting you guys..I'll be back in dallas for a week for spring break.

There's enough to buy plenty of lightnings...but it looks like I need to find this Terry guy for when I come back over spring break to help me out with a valentine 1 and m20 install.

I used the Ford X-Plan pricing to get my 04 DSG at Jordan Ford in San Antonio. Saved alot of $$$$$. You might want to see what they have on the lot. Check with Tim Farrow.

That is cool Dru.....my 19 year old son is going to UT Austin....and it will be a cold day in hell before he gets a Lightning...LOL...that is as long as I am spending 20k a fricking year for his education. I figure if he could come up with the funds to support a Lightning...he can drive a used Honda and pay for school himself:d .
Welcome to the club:beer: .

lol yea, woulda been a cold day in hell for me too...school is also kinda taken care of now too due to this, so I can't complain really. I went to Collin County Community College in frisco and some in plano and just transferred here so I basically knocked out a year and a half for nothing because my work was paying the small price for junior college...got in as a transfer and all my credits transferred over. He have his car down here? parking is insane, I see all the time people posting asking for rides back to dallas. cya
