hey whats the scoop on that truck? I remember someone telling me something about a real life cannon ball run.... is that where they really just go from point A to point B and see who can get there the fastest????

The Gumball 3000 is the 'real' Cannonball-style race. It's a nationwide party on wheels, but the buy in is around $10,000, and you must be invited. ;)

They came through Dallas last year and stayed at the Crescent Hotel. It was a San Fran to Miami run.

It is a competition put on mostly by Michelin every year. You meet at a starting point and race at several tracks across the country. They check you between venues and do not want you to speed. They are mostly road racing venues at famous tracks like Road Atlanta, Las Vagas Speedway, Sears Point etc.. They usually hit 7 tracks and about 8-10 thousand road miles total start to finish. It is about a 7 day event you can find all the rules on www.onelapofamerica.com (http://www.onelapofamerica.com) You must start and finish on the same set of Michelin tires, carry all tools, parts and spares with you. It is a grueling competition.

I have tried to put a crew together a few times. The closest we came was in 2000 using our 98 C5. It was 2500 each and a weeks vacation. My co driver jsut started a new job and couldn't take off. I am not in shape enough to tackle it today. I have watched Ed's Gride since 00, his original L was stolen a week before the race so he scrambled to make the race in a brand new truck. He is a member at MSR as well. Way back in the day we stuffed some 7" PIAA pencil beams in the front nose. When thoes baby's were on it looked like a 747 coming in for a landing:eek2: . We made several cannonball runs in that car. One memorable run was 1350 miles to Daytona, FL in 13 hours yep averaged over 100:burnout: I think I am too old for that **** now...
