So true. Just drink alchohol and you'll be fine.

Y'know, you hear that, but I don't think the water is as bad as they say. For instance, the resort we were at in Cancun(not far away) had an on site filtration system to clean the water. Not that I drank much of it - just stick to beer and you'll be fine. :) Remember, the ice in your drink came from tap water too!

The ex-gf visited Mexico City while in college and they were all advised to NOT drink the water while there.
She said Corona's were $.25 though and they sold them on street corners everywhere like crazy!

I've been to Playa del Carmen (7 miles directly across from Cozumel on the Yucatan or 40 miles directly South of Cancun) 4 times. Most of the big resorts there have filtration systems on site now a days. They(resorts) are pretty much self sufficient when it comes to the water. They've come a long way in the last 10 years. But, I'd check with your resort, just in case, they should have the lowdown for you. I had no problems of any kind on any of my visits.
I wouldn't however, drink the water OUTSIDE of your resort.

Your wife may already do this but I reccomend you get a tan or the like. I hear a lot of folks are miserable over there without a tan before they go. It is all about the sun and beaches down there:beer:

why is it they say don't drink the water, but then every one drinks mexican beer, brewed with Mexican water. Or, they drink iced drinks with ice madefrom Mexican water. So by then why not just the water and get it over with?

I believe that - Mexico City is a dump. Pretty different than anywhere on the Yucatan peninsula. :)

well we already got most of it planned... since cozumel and playa del carmen are so close... we are gonna spend one day at the xel-ha its a natural waterpark, and tulum where the old pyramids are.... then just gonna max and relax... cant wait to dive and snorkel.... man this is gonna be fun.....
thanks guys for the tips.... but i dont think 'not' drinking water will be much of a problem... for one, beer and drinks are free so I see alot of corona and margaritas in my future... not to mention, i dont drink much water anyway....

As was said before - the margaritas are made with WATER.
The fruits and vegetables are washed ( you hope ) in water
If you brush your teeth you will use what ? corona ??

When my wife, kids and I went, we talked to our family doc, and he told us to take chewable Pepto Bismol tablets with us, and to take two in the am and two at nite, before bed. Place we stayed had bottled water, and was all inclusive. They "ran out" of bottled water the last 2 days there, so I switched to beer.
My kids of course drank cokes, but they did contain ice. The hotel did have a filtration system, as well, but you never know. The biggest concern is if you go out and party, you don't know about the place you are at. We had absolutely no problems. Was it the Pepto? Couldn't say for sure, but it sure didn't hurt. Get a couple of boxes and take with you. Have fun. - Mike
