Thought you guys might like this. You may know the L owner, or have seen some of the SHO's in the vid. Enjoy!

Quit whoring this stuff around. :D

You still owe me my 1/8-mile or 1/4-mile race, whichever you prefer to get beat down in. Lata old bro.....

Haven't talked to the guys in awhile. Say hello to everyone for me....

Thought I would find you here Laurence! SHOforum is dead right now, so I had to go elsewhere for my entertainment :D 1/8th mile, RIGHT! How about we do 1/2 mile? Then I might have a chance! Hey, see if you can talk some of your Lightning buds into doing the Texas Mile this fall. I will be there along with some friends of mine. Hoping to embarass some Vettes! BTW, you going to be around Austin for the SPring RUn? I am trying to make it. Maybe I will give you that race from a dig, and video it so you can redeem yourself! :D

It didn't look TO ME like the vette got beat. AND the guy in the Lightning didn't even seem interested. Why someone would put that kind of money in that kind of car beats me  .

Half the races were so close that just getting a jump by taking off before the other guy means you won...

If your car really is that much faster prove it by launching AFTER the other guy....

Unfortunately, I hit it before he did.

He reeled me in within a matter of seconds. Quick car.

And unless you're running over 117mph in the quarter, you're gonna get druuuuuuuug by those Taurii......I ran 110mph and you see the result. So Trai, ease up dawg. :D

The Lightning in the vid didn't have close to the rwhp as advertised and the Vette would have started pulling you soon after you let off the gas, but nice video just the same.

110mph in what  an L'?? If thats the case that would be 12.40's-12.60's?? And that taurus can do what in a quarter??

Those b*tches didn't wanna run 1/4-mile from a dig. :) These were highway runs only.

They wanted to pick on me from a 60mph punch. I got out ahead simply because I punched it first. A chase is a race, and he passed me by 110mph.

I've seen that Taurus go 13.1 @ 115 on 8psi, and he was running well over 10psi that day. Gotta remember, FWD and big hp are a tough combo from a launch perspective...It was all in fun, about 30 cars getting together for some lawlessness in West Texas. We're all friends here...

I used to have a SHO, and I remember putting a beat down on Dennis's black Conturd SVT driven extremely hard by Dennis's son one night on 35. :D

Don't race it again, those cars are WELL known for the half-shalfs snapping in two. This is on everyday taurus's. I'd hate to see a big dent in the side of that beautiful red truck of yours once the cv shaft decides it doesn't wanna play anymore. :rll:

I just know the L hung a LOT better than stock L's I have raced. As far as the Vette pulling me AFTER I let off the gas, well yeah. If you mean had we kept going that the Vette would start pulling, well no, I doubt it. The only reason he pulled anything is because he started in 2nd, while I started in 3rd. As soon as he shifted to 4th I started walking. Had we went to over 150 or so, then maybe, but I would still be willing to bet I would have kept walking. Judging from the mph's seen by some modded Vette's at the Texas mile, I would be pulling until I topped out (around 185 or so).

As you can see from the vid, Laurence went well before me. Now if you are talking reeling him in from a stop after giving him the jump, well that would not happen until a few hundred feet after the 1/4, or over 120mph. This car is not a great first 1/8th car (but that will hopefully change soon).

The lightnings strength is in the launch ..

I havent ever raced a turbo charged or super charged SHO - BUT since the one in the movie makes nearly as much HP as my truck and weighs what 1500 lbs less - I wouldnt be surprised if it beat me in a race from 40 to 140...

But from a stop light thats a diff race.

And I'd be willing to race with my boat behind. Ill hook up my boat behind mine and you hook up Garrets boat behind the SHO ... ( Garrets is lighter ) We'll race from 190 and old denton to the marina - First one with trailer wheels in the water wins..:evil

Then we can do the "Lowes" race - We load up 30 bags of mulch in my vehicle and 30 bags of mulch in yours and race to my front yard. First one to unload a single bag wins - the loser has to pay for all the mulch and unload the rest ....:evil

Gotta' love the Ls fat TQ curve.

On a side note, I was hanging out at an OU college buddy of mine's house. He's a Mech. Engineer at the GM Assy. Plant in OKC (transferred from Lansing, MI.) and had a brand-new '99/'00 5.7 L Firebird (optioned out as he had all the GM discounts).

We've been great friends since '89 and we've always been back and forth on which is superior performance-wise ... FORD v. CHEVY.

Since I brought the '02 sales literature over to his house back in the day, he's always been impressed with the Ls FAT TORQUE curve. I even let him test drive it last summer down here. knana

I just thought that was note-worthy coming from a die-hard Chevy guy and a GM engineer!

I am very familiar with Laurence's L, and believe me when I say it' s fast as hell! Especially considering that he only runs a 4lb lower, chip, and filter. I watched him run a 12.47 at 110.3 mph on drag radials at Ennis, with my own two eyes.:eek2:

The simple fact of the matter is that L's are not strong on the big end(due to the fact that they have the aerodynamics of your average apartment complex). Their forte is from a dig, or a LOW roll, ESPECIALLY when running a high HP car. I can vouch for those particular Super/Turbocharged Tauruses. Those suckers haul nuts up top. They are ALL about the highway roll-ons, much like the Supras, but are worth squat from a dig due to their FWD and narrow torque bands.

We all have our tastes, but you cannot deny a fast-a$$ STREET car, like it or not. Fact of the matter is....if you were to roll up on one of "those" Tauruses on the highway(60-70mph), packing anything less than a KB pushing 18-20 psi, or a 100 shot of N2O, then you will get OWNED!......by a Taurus. I know because I did.:o

I believe Tony is the one who put it on Rob back in the day. But I got him back a couple of times in the L and the C5:D . We did several 60 and 80mph punches down 360 and my mild black C5 put the uggy uggy on him every time. I had the black C5 over 195mph and I would fear the Taraus anywhere near that speed as for safety:eek2: . Even the vette was gatting a little light. Tony had to run on the left side of me due to insane torque steer. He was running a Vortech at 15psi making around 430rwhp I believe. But he works on it more than an 1986 El Camino and they both have the same value:rll: .

The FWD does hurt, but my turbo has a completely different torque curve than the SC'd cars. I am making over 350ft lbs during my entire shifting rpms. Here is a graph.
