hey guys, i dont expect anyone to actually have one for sale, although that would be nice, but i guess hard to move.??

anyway, im looking for a small shed for the backyard... i dont want anything real big... basically just large enough for mower, weed eater, tools, etc

i seen these things at home depot, lowes, etc and see some of them go way up in price... just curious if anyone has done this sort of thing lately... do ya reccomend anything special.. and how hard are they to build? i figure cant be too hard... just nail the wood together...right??

found an 8x8 at lowes for $388 but doesnt include shingles or concrete for the flooring.... anyone know about shingles? i figure the concrete might be hard..... is that something I would have to get a professional to do?

I don't know about those buildigs at Home Depot. Our 10x10 was custom built with a concrete floor. I highly recommend getting the concrete professionally done....working with concrete is a biatch. Shingles on the roof is easy...I've done that on my shed, patio cover and dog house. You might be able to get Home Depot to come install it for you. You might want to check into that.

I went with the plastic one from Rubbermaid- easy to install and its been holding up well after 9 years of use. I think paid about $300 to #400.
The size is 6x4x3 (LxWxH)

Pick it up at Depot or Lowes

Rubbermaid here too. Had it done in one hour with a cordless drill and a rubber mallet. AND it does have a floor.

The one I got is bigger, the doors are 6ft tall and the roof is 8ft tall in the middle.

I had a garage sale and sold all my crap so I wouldn't have to buy a shed. :D

Scott, you live in mansfield right? In Mansfield, anything on a concrete slab or over 10x12 is considered permanent and you have to have a permit and you will end up being taxed on its value. Those ones at lowes and home depot are actually pretty cheap if you consider how much it will cost you to build the same thing. But if you want something simple you can purchase one of the cheap 8x10 kits from sears for less than $200 and about another $150 for the floor and be done (or just do a dirt floor). They just aren't the best looking things IMO.

Home Depot or Loews should be able to special order any of the ones in the Rubbermaid line. You'll have to wait a couple weeks for delivery, but at least they don't charge for the shipping.

NOWAY! That is way overpriced. That is the "old" model. The new model has a better roof and is put together better.
I got mine at Home Depot for $388 +tax. I cannot find it on their website but it's 8x8, has a floor and locking double doors. I can easily fit all my lawn equipment and a motorcycle in there.

i went up to lowes to look at the rubbermaid ones.... they arent bad at all, but i think im gonna go a differnt route....im gonna try and build one of the wood ones myself. they look pretty simple... i took my digital camera and took pics all around....

looks as all I need is about 50 2x4s, plywood, shingles and bunch of nails and paint.... (prolly a few other things like hinges for doors, etc)

i was thinking of just doing the floor in wood instead of paying someone to come put concrete down....

the reason im not gonna buy the kits is because, most of them are about 8x10 or larger... i really dont want one that big... im kinda thinking 4x6 or 5x7 something like that....

anyway, i do have one question... wanted to see if anyone has any ideas....

the place where I want to put the shed, is not a flat surface.... i want it at the very back of my yard against the fence... well the very last 3-4 feet of my backyard slopes down (didnt get lucky with lot when i had the house built, only 3 lots left to choose from in my hood)

anyway, anyone have any ideas.. what should I do? i dont think a retaining wall is really necessary or maybe it is... thoughts?

Ive built one of the metal kits from loews. Bought the metal floor frame and layed some wood down.

Wasnt to hard excpet the fact it kept raining real hard off and on the weekend i did it. But i suckered a friend to help me for some lunch.

Its not tall but holds alot of crap. If you want to check it out let me know or just stop by, you know where my casa is. :tu:

I don't know about a wood floor with the weather here. You may want to reconsider that.

Also, if you have never built a structure like this, I would highly recommend you not cut your teeth on a project of this scale. There is a lot more to it than just slapping 2x4s and shingles together. If your measurements are off or your walls are not square it will not turn out right.

If they are still building houses in your area, I would suggest you go talk to the guys doing the framing and see if they will do it for you on the side. It will be better and less stressful that way. Although I'm sure the thread material from your experiences will be classic!:tu:

The first thing I tried to build is a dog house. I got it right, but it took a long time, a lot of rework, a lot of cursing and MANY MANY trips to Home Depot.

Scott, got mine at Lowes,Its 10x10 vinyl with a floor kit. won't warp, rust, rot and never needs painting. It cost about 2x what you want to pay but its worth it not having to worry about all the things I mentioned above. Don't waste your money on the little tin jobs. They blow away fairly easy. You know where I live, stop by and look at mine.

The tin ones wont fly away if you know the correct way to build them. :tu:

But back in the day when my parents were married he roofed out metal shed with plywood and shingles. Im planing on doing that to mine one day. Just got to get off my lazy bum :evil

Tom

I have a wood floor in mine. I bought the floor kit (metal frame) and sheets of some special plywood (forgot the name). My shed is right on the side of my house, and when it rains, it all drains from the neighbors house and field into my back yard. It looks like a swamp. But for about 6 months i havent had a problem yet. The one i built at my old house has lasted little under 12 years, and last month i stoped by and its still looks good.
