This is what saw after blowing my engine a 700 dollar teardown bill, void of powertrain coverage. Then I picked it up in pieces since they pulled the tranny and engine for inspection. Cost me 200 bucks to get it towed home from Frisco. So it ended up costing me about a thousand bucks and three weeks just to get my warranty voided:hammer: . Next time I would just put the thousand towards a new engine..

January of 2003. I do have Tom Scarpello's office number though. We had a chat about the failure and design of the engine and purpose of the truck. He said he is a gear head and hot rodder at heart. Legally he said SVT is bound not to dispute FOMOco warranty runlings. He did say he was sympathetic to my claim denial and said he could give me parts at cost to repair it. I asked him why they left stock rods in the 5.4 yet put Manleys in the 4.6's. He said the stock 5.4 rod stood up to their testing and does not fail under stock operating conditions. He said the 4.6 rod was very weak so they chose the Manleys for the task. I told him about being able to take a Chevy engine like the LS1 and almost double it's power output and drive it with high reliablility. I was let down that Ford built the SC 5.4 where if you put an extra 50hp in then it could break. He said they are built to withstand stock conditions not a certain % more like I would have liked. Oh well I expected my engine to blow the day I bought the truck. However I did not expect my $$$$ JDM longblock to start knocking in 3K miles:hammer: So out it comes again for a fix. But such is the world of high performance. Don't risk what you aren't willing to break or replace.:tu:

Man T-Dog, thats not good at all. I talked to the guys at D.S.S. Racing Engines today inquirering on a "built" shortblock and they echoed your words exactly on how the L' engine is NOT a purpose built engine. Their shortblocks are $3499.99 BTW. So if I blow her up, thats the way I'm headed. I'll be sure to bring ya' some more "crown" while we sit down and discuss the repair bill.

Terry,
If you had to do it all over again who's built motor would you run?

I would build my own. I should have but felt comforted by Jims awarranty and experience. Neither of which did me much good 1200 miles away. I have access to one of the worlds best engine builders locally so doing them here is no problem.

Who is the builder (just curious if I have heard of them) and what would be a ballpark price for a shortblock with the works?

I also called Hans over at Hans Feustal Racing and he gave me a quote of $1600.00 labor to rebuild from top to bottom. This would be me supplying the parts of course. He builds nice 4.6 and 5.4's BTW. He told me he heard from one of his suppliers that a 6.2L stroker is on the drawing board. He doesn't know at what stage its at, just that its a possiblility.

jebus, the stroke on one of these is long anyways, i could only imagine a 6.2l stroke.
terry, i have faith that you could build one sick ass shortblock/longblock. i say go for it and start building your own. $$$
also the guy who did all my machining does some sick ass mod motors too.

My understanding is the boost in cubes is coming from the new overbore sleeves (that come with the kit). The stroke is changed just everso-slightly. :tu:

Hans Feustel Racing built my 331 in my Mustang. At least the short block & rebuilt the heads. My crew chief did the porting on the heads and the Supercharger, intake, ...etc

Hans is a cool cat........... Straight-up with ya and has a good rep. The worlds fastest smallblock was built by him a few years back. I wouldn't mind spending money with him, if and when I ever needed to.

I thought I posted it earlier... Well Racing does my machine work. They usually do high end racing engines like R Morrison but they do street stuff for select customers.
