Less than a month away we have Charity laps at Texas Motor Speedway!! Make plans for this one...everybody that got to participate in the last two had an absolute blast!! For those that don't know, at this event you donate $25 to the Speedway Children's Charities and get 3 laps on the big oval. Last time we had about 12 Lightnings on the track at once...needless to say it was cool :tu:

Probly not. But to fix that you just simply fall to the back of the pack wait for the front man to get behind you. Soon as he dose just gun it around the track until you reach the rear of the pack again.

But either way im in. :tu:

Last year when we had all the Lightnings on the track, we were pretty much doing what ever we wanted...passing, running fast, whatever. I hit 120 on the back straightaway and I was one of the slower trucks on the track. There is nothing like coming out of one of the turns onto the straightaway and hearing all of those superchargers spooling up around you!

The rules are you stay behind the pace car and in front of the pace trucks in the back. What happens in between is up to you. The first year we did this they were strict on speed, but last year they lightened up a little. Bottom line, if you've ever wished that you could drive on the high-banked oval, here's your opportunity!!

We've got to do better than that! I told the folks at Speedway Children's Charities that we would double what we had last year. Too bad many of the guys that were out there last year have their trucks in pieces (and a lot of us have pieces of their trucks on our trucks now). Steve, Jeff, Crawford, you guys down?? I want to see a minimum of 25 Lightnings from this group out there. That's not too much to ask, plus you get to drive on TMS. How freakin' cool is that  ? It's for a great charity, guys...let's get 25 of us out there.

I just have to take this moment to say....:bs . If you can drive it on an open track side by side with a whole crap load of amatuer drivers, you can run it down the quarter mile.

I think they let you out in groups of 12 or so. You have to stay behind the pace car and in front of the track police behind you. What you do in between is your choice. To get on the track together we just have to stage together in the staging area. I hope for at least two groups this go around.

Last year we congregated in one area beforehand and entered the staging area as a group. Obviously the sooner we get together and stage, the sooner we will get on teh track. There will be a lot of people out there.

I've got a couple additional questions:

#1) are we allowed to have a rider in the vehicle with us?
#2) are any of y'all planning on doing more than one run around the track?

Reason I'm asking is, if my wife can ride, and not get left out of the other festivities, she'll go; also, I've got some friends who would like to go, and I'm willing to cough up extra for additional lap times so they can ride as well, if they don't have a vehicle suitable for such a run. Unless, of course, passengers are forbidden; then my plans will ahve to change somewhat.

I appreciate y'all letting me ask such n00b questions, and I hope to hear a quick reply on this.

Thanks. :bows

OK, since we're fast approaching the date for this, we should nail down the details. I suggest we just do like we did last time.....gather in the staging area and line up from there. The laps start at 6, so I would assume the gates will open at 5:30 or so. I'll plan on being there about 5:30. If some of you guys from the North Dallas/Plano/Richardson area want to meet up, post here and we'll set a meeting place for a convoy out.

For those of you that don't know, there is a tunnel that goes under the track on the south side to the infield. Here is a crappy map I got from the website. The road to the tunnel is where the red arrow is.

Maybe we can have two run groups?I'm planning on running at least twice, so early is good for me. I've also got some pals who're Mustang owners who're wanting to go, not to mention a couple of ricer pals--hence why I've been watching this thread with interest to see if y'all are gonna allow the RX8 guys to join as well... a response on this would be very nice. ;) THanks!

EDIT: Also, will we be allowed to bring passengers to ride with us on the track?? Again, necessary, if the wife is to come along... THanks!

Bring 'em all. I don't have any issue with that, but the objective here is to get all of the Lightnings together on the track, so please help them understand our intent. Last thing most of these guys want is a bunch of Lightnings and a stray Honda or two in the mix. :nono:

I think we'll be fordced to have two groups, so that's not a big deal. I'm basically planning to be there at 5:30....I'll wait around until we have a good-sized group and elect to jump on the track, like we did last year. I would really like to get out there before the sun goes down for better pictures, though. I'm flexible either way.

Okay, how 'bout this: we set it up where the "strays" run together, and the L's run as a group, at least the first time? I am hearing tht there might be a few coming from the mustang crowd, and perhaps a WRX owner and some of his pals, so we can lump 'em together, and then we can run as a group. Think that'll work?

Oh, an does the "bring 'em all" include passengers on the track?

Well, since the two that I know of (you and Ronald) are in Frisco, and I don't know where the rest of the gang you are referring to is coming from, I'll make it a central-ish location based on the route I plan to take out there. How about Hooters in Addison, Belt Line and the tollway @4:30-ish? I would like to get on the road around 5 or 5:15.
