One of mine is shooting / hunting - I'm keeping this thread "clean", Doug  :tu:. Which ID am I now? :) I posted up the .jpegs and somehow made the post under Laney's id.

We took the Mini-14 (.223 Rem.) and Colt Gov't Model (.45 ACP / Ultimate Bright Stainless) out to a range north of Frisco today for some 100 yard - MOA (minute-of-angle) work with the rifle.

I brought out my batch of UMC .223 55 gr. FMJs (for some case / consistency shooting) and they told me I had to shoot soft-points b/c they might punch holes in the backplates, etc. behind the dirt berms. :hammer:

I ended up having to run some of their "remanufactured" stuff instead, but still had fun. I had some "fliers" but the Mini-14 Ranch did pretty good at 100 yards on a windy day.

I'm looking to build up an AR-15 with a full floating bull-bbl., match trigger, flat-top scope rail, etc. and a fully compensated .45 stainless high-capacity Kimber and let Laney have the current setups for practice.

Every since Laney bought the Band Of Brothers box-set for me for Valentine's Day, I've been in gun-mode and revisiting hobbies I haven't enjoyed in a while.

I'm looking for a good / consistent case of soft-points and looking for TIGHT MOA groups out of the rifle!

What's everyone else do for non-L related fun ? Post up. :)

Ronald

Looks like you used a shotgun on that target:rll: . I like groups under 1" especially at 100yds. Here is one with Moonshine's .17HMR 4 close and 1 flyer. My AR consistently turns sub 1/3" groups. Of course popping prarie dogs up to 1000 yds in the wind make you a little better:twitch: Also the barrel is a type of tuning fork resting it on a stand is a :nono: that is the reason for free floating barrels. Glad you got out to a range:tu:

Wise-ass! :d I'm dialing it in and learning. :D

My main focus is white-tail. I've been hunting them with the .300 Win. Mag., but that's overkill where some of the furthest OK. timber kills are barely over 100 yds. Depending on the job situation and wedding junk, I'd be looking for white-tail leases down here.

Today was a good day and Laney saw me smile for a change.

My first experience with weapons was in the Army shooting at people . Haven't quite gotten over that experience.

My other hobbies are bowling, guitar and flight simulation. I have a mini cockpit set up at home with a radio stack, auto pilot, yoke, pedals and some other stuff. I love night flying with low cloud cover :tu: .

Ronald,

PM me. I have a rifle for sale that sounds like what you're looking for. Tiny groups are fun, but they take first rate equipment and lots of trigger time.

Yes... small groups are fun. But, why take out just small parts of the target when you can just take out the whole thing with one shot?

One word: Half-life. Or is that two words? Or two half-words, which puts me back at one word? Ohhh, it's so confusing.

Brian,

I understand the whole half life thing... Its not the sort of weapon you would want to fire off in the pasture or at the gun range. Its the kind of weapon you would enjoy playing with over seas... Fallujah perhaps? :evil

I was thinking most of Afghanistan, parts of northern Pakistan and India.. that should just about cover it.. oh yeah, parts of Palestine too..

oops, almost forgot parts of the Phillipines and New Orleans.. yep, not a big fan of the Big Sleazy, er Easy.. what a dump. But the people were nice.

Brian,

Thanks, I appreciate the offer, but I'm looking more for the experience of putting together an AR "from the ground up", learning the inner workings of the rifle and fine tuning the setup.

I remember my earlier days of reloading and staying up 1/2 the night on the reloading bench getting consistent batch loads for the .44/.45/.'06/.223, etc. :)

Very nice groups, BTW! :bows

Larry,

The first time I went paint-balling, I COULD NOT pull the trigger on one of my family/friends because it's SO ingrained in me that you don't point a firearm anywhere near someone.

I guess it's a mental-block thing. I understand your situation, sort of.

Ronald

Hobbies? the dirt bike is teh #1 hobby right now MX, cross country, and trying to keep teh bke rubber side down and me out of casts and hospitals. I also do some Mt biking and BMX, and play ice hockey, too. teh hockey has taken a back seat since I keep getting hurt on the bike. I played in a league at Grapevine Mills. Dru, wher else do you play? maybe we've played against each other , or at drop in, or if nothing else there's a god chance you skated with my son.
