I happened across this flash Memorial Day piece and thought I would post-up: http://nathanadams.com/WeSupportU.htm
I remember my great-granddad, Iva Garrison, fought in France during WW1 and was hit with Mustard Gas. He passed on over here in a hospital stateside way back in the day.:(
A college buddy of mine was in the ~'91 Iraqi conflict. He told us stories of Iraqi casualties they loaded in 6x6s and on the hoods. Sometimes "remains" would fall off the hood... and under tread at speed. He said there were AKs and 7.62 tracers all over the place but they had to destroy them all and bury them all with bulldozers.
Another story, just like a month ago or so, I had just finished up the Band of Brothers boxset Laney bought me (I highly recommend it if your a student of military history) and I was at the Kwik Kar car wash here in Frisco hosing off the L. I noticed the SUV next to me has a "Airborne" decal on the rear-window. The guy has a high-and-tight and sorta' resembled Moonshine/Brian.
I get to talking to him about the Airborne and Band of Brothers. Turns out he's in Airborne / Special Forces and has been on tours in Afghanistan/Iraq and shipping out to Iraq in days.
Normally, I'm suspect/skeptical of "posers", but he certainly knew his stuff - I sorta' quizzed him. We visited for about an hour or so.
I asked him one of the "coolest" unclassified thing he could tell me. He said the soldiers that have been in Iraq/Afghanistan for a while were "intuitive" during rocket/grenade attacks.
They could tell which RPG was landing within the perimeter and outside and what was "friendly" by the report and direction. The new-guys bolted like crazy and the vets held back, listened and acted accordingly.
