How much is a stock tranny worth? I'm tempted to buy a Monster box that's for sale, but it depends on how much mine would be worth. My L is an 01, w/ 36,000.

Secondly, are all year tranny's the same?

Thanks!

It depends if you think there is a problem with yours. Since you have gone to the dealer to have it replaced under warranty. Why would you pawn it off on someone else for good money? Good used trannies normally go for 800-1200 bucks. There are about 5 series of L trannies. Early 01's had lemons in them the build tag said J1 on the drivers side of them. I call them Junk One's from the J1. Ford tried some efficiency changes and they did not work out. You have to replace about 3-400 in hard parts to correct this problem.

There is definitely a problem with mine, otherwise I wouldn't be tempted to buy the Monster box. Ford has said it was fine on 2 seperate occasions though. :hammer: I figured finding out the value of a tranny in good working order would help me determine mine in "not so good" working order. I wouldn't sell it to anyone without going over exactly what I think is wrong with it (believe it or not).

What exactly is it doing, and what do you think is wrong with it??

What are the typical problems, what parts need replacing, and how early in the '01 series were the problems present?

They loose second gear when you make enough power. You just have to look at the tranny tag and look for either a J1 or updated 5X.

It has ALWAYS felt like the torque converter had a really crappy lockup since day one. I took it in at 10,000 miles because of that and dealer said it was normal. I've seen a video of another L doing the same thing, so all I could assume was they were correct. If you pass a parking spot, and want to throw it in reverse to back in ... it takes my L 3 FULL seconds to go into reverse before I can start backing up (and then feels like it binds a little doing that, just doesn't feel smooth). It's always lazily shifted when running through the gears. Recently it seems if I floor it in first, I'm not sure it would shift to second unless I let off the gas. I don't have the balls to hold my foot to the floor when it starts wrapping out at 5400-5800rpm's so I usually slightly lift and it finally shifts. It doesn't downshift like I think it should. I'm going to be checking soon to see if it's a J1 like Terry says. I'm betting $$$ it is.

Mine'll shift fine at WOT from 1 to 2, it's in the middle fo 2 that I get a "hiccup", at about 3500rpm under WOT, then it pulls hard to redline and does the boost dump and shifts to 3. The dealer told me it's a one-way clutch in the tranny that goes bad, but I'm not 100% positive that's the cause, because they've replaced it twice, with the valve body, and it still does it. Terry didn't exactly answer my questions, tho, so maybe I can find more info somewhere. :( I'll check for the "J1" code, but that does little for me.

That didn't answer my questions. I need to know exactly what the symptoms are supposed to be, what aprt are affected, and what parts are supposed to be replaced/upgraded, so I have ammunition when I take it in and can get it replaced under warranty.
