I want feedback -- Should we allow people to register and post thier ONLY post to sell something ?
Especially if they are out of town and clearly just spamming sites all over to sell thier truck or whatever ?
Im tempted to CLOSE the posts ... What do you think ?

My first thought is to require a certain number of posts before they can access the For Sale section. Or maybe just allow participating members to post items for sale.

I see I am the only vote so far. I was thinking a time limit after registering before you can list a for sale item. Maybe 60 days, this would kill any temptation to register just to hawk your wares. You can always wave the period in cases where it is obvious a newer member is particapating and wants to sale something sooner than that.

Agreed. For people that are far away, unless they can prove they're legit, or can meet you in person, the odds are no one is going to buy it anyways, why bother reading it.

I would take it case by case Doug. I don't notice an overwhelming trend yet. I would tend to be biased against non SVT related items. Along with those who are not considerate, commercial promotion or non-automotive sellers. There are a few sites out there I only have a few posts from offering items related to that site. I would not like them to prohibit my posts:tu: . I say continue with your "sandbox" rules and close what you want:beer:

I tend to agree along the lines of Terry. Keep it SVT and somewhat local to N Tx or Nw Pa ;) . If it gets out of hand, then shut it down.

It might change it a bit.. one was from Tennessee.. I guess the bigger concern is that you have someone selling parts from a hot truck as they part it out for cash.. as always, buyer beware. But there are times when you have non-members accessing the site to look at the want ads because they are looking to buy a used L or L parts.. I understand but havent made my way to a complete ban on these posts. Do they use a lot of bandwidth?

Bandwidth isnt the issue. It is more a question of value. The forum is in place for the local ( and formerly local ) Lightning enthusiasts. We are placed highly in both google and yahoo serach engines.. That placement should be a benefit available to the folks who participate and make the Club what it is..
I would ban you but I wouldnt take the chance of pissing off Kim ...:rll:
It also get me when someone from 3 states away advertises a truck for 3K over payoff and 7k over what its worth...
Im looking into permissions to restrict posting in this forum to min # of posts..

It changes mine.....it makes me feel sure about it.........that is total Bull Sh!t. This is a sight for local members. I say screw the spam whores.
Nothing against you there, Terry, but if your spam whoring other sights, that's between you and those sights. I don't feel it should influence the integrity of this sight/club.
Those are such obvious examples of users, it is not even funny.
Why not just turn this into Ebay and Doug can collect a fee from the sellers that pop in to use the sight as a selling tool.
The idea of posts count can be end arounded unless the count is high enough to discourage abuse.
There is also the question of integrity of the sellers. It would be nice to know that the sellers are not going to screw one of our fellow members. By requiring some sort of longevity, the risks of a scammer goes way down.

You're stupid Rocks, I looked at every link highlighted and all but one of them is Lightning related, 2 trucks, wheels & tires, a blower, and misc stereo crap. Whether they are over priced or not doesn't affect our glorious "site quality". I don't see why the guy wanting a spare tire for his new L was brought into this post. He looks like new to TALON member vouched for by a current member looking to buy some missing parts. Lets not run him off so soon. The guy with the PCM is likely a HALO member I know I don't have 3 posts on their forum either. Way to critical of folks on this one. These posts are SVT related minus the stereo crap.

Just my $.02, but it would be good to see all the For-Sale - Wanted posters "give something back" to the club.
Maybe a page prior to floating the post mentioning that TALON would like to see all FS-W'd posters share their L knowledge/experiences/etc. with the rest of us in a constructive way and not just try to make a buck.

It has nothing to do with what they are selling. it has more to do with the fact that they are ONLY interested in selling. NOT participating... As it is now new members CANT post in the for sale section ...

Stupid huh...........nice Terry. Let's talk stupid...you poser. You may need to watch who you call stupid Terry. Next time we are face to face say that and see what happens.
Keep going and I may just make a special trip to see how you want to stack up to your big mouth.

Doug,
Rocks said something that is interesting.. How about if you charge for those that arent paying members to post in For Sale portion? Just make them paypal you some cash..
You have to understand, I am the kind of guy that looks at all the ads in the Sunday paper. I look at every new for sale item that is posted. I looked at everytime Terry updated his for sale list. I just like to look at that stuff. You never know what you might want to buy.
However, the idea of making a poser pay a little to support the site to be able to sell something here might have merit.

My .02 would be to only allow supporting members to post items for sale. Just and idea at least they would give to the site before the site would give to them. But what do I know Im from lousyanna

I don't have a problem with HALO guys posting stuff. Really, the Tennessee guy is just wasting his time and our space, but other than that, I think guys in our regional area should be able to post as long as it is Lightning related. As far as the guy wanting to find a spare wheel/tire, even if it is his first post, I don't have a problem with that one.
Why don't you put in a delay system for the For Sale section that will allow you to screen items before they are posted? I'm sure you'de be fair. Or better yet, let Ron screen them. :evil

Maybe I misunderstood, but I thought the issue was with the folks that register to simply post an item for sale, and then they are gone. The folks that do this may or may not be legit, but due to the fact that they are listing sale items on the TALON sight, they are borrowing the credibility of the sight, while none of us has any way of knowing if they are up to no good.
Somehow we seem to be drifting off to a regional issue. Many of the Halo guys are registered here anyway and do particapate in the club. So the new rule would not affect them anyway.
Thanks for the confidence Sixpipes...LOL...I'll pass:cool: on the, add censor, title.

I think it should be on a case by case basis. I haven't seen -that- much of it around here. At most I'd say the time delay idea.

I can see the annoyance with some of those posts. I remember seeing the Overpriced lightning out in CA or something like that. How about posting a sticky with some rules for the FS/WTB section and then delete those posts that violate it.
For example lightning related only for non-supporting TALON Members and anything goes for supporting TALON Members. Also maybe something like within a certain distance from the DFW area except for supporting TALON Members etc. etc. Whatever would work best for you guys. If the rules are not met the post will be deleted.
I do read your site at least a couple of times a week and like checking out the for sale section. I don't participate much as I don't feel I have much to add, but do appreciate the use of your site.

im always interested in deals for stuff i might be looking for, so i say lettem post. however, if they post things that are non lightning related then id say that they need to go elsewhere (for 1st post sellers)

My 2 cents: make each one need mod approval before posting. Either that, or make 'em pay to get in.

Although I may want to buy something they are offering I would be very leary of someone not local and with only a few posts or single post.
I like the idea of a certain number of posts or contribution to the site if selling is your only use- must be SVT related.

For example... The description of the section says this but I guess its not clear enough
Items for sale or Items Wanted
Lets try to keep them relatively SVT related.
This is intended for the TALON member to sell the occasional item.
NOT for a business to market products.
