Having lived in Houston for 35yrs. They have guide wires that hold the posts up and level. Kind of like the support wires we put on newly planted trees, except they are several strands of thick wire. If you read the story, the driver was going at a pretty good clip and got one of the guide wires under the front wheel and up she went.. :nana2
Bet that was one scary ride though.

I've seen people over the years ride right up those guide wires then flip over.
Haven't noticed lately but I think most poles don't have them anymore. At least not around here.

with mostly underground utilities, not too many poles either.. but people find a way to do the weirdest things with their vehicles.. there was a pic floating around on the internet where a guy in Kansas had his up in some power lines. :ron: :nono:

Well, anyplace with overhead utilities have guy wires supporting the poles. But, it is nice to have underground utilities--no guy wires, no wires overhead, and no chance of power loss due to ice storms! :d
