I keep waking up with this recurring dream that I have hurt my baby. I run to the window to check and "OH SHIZNIT!!!" IT'S TRUE!!! No L in the driveway................ Currently in rehab (both me and the L) after a total nervous breakdown over my baby's wreck.

Worst part........it was all my fault!!! :( :eek2: :nono: :crying: :vomit:

I was showing off at the wrong time and place. 6am and super tired from partying all night (wasn't drinking, thank god) on a narrow ass road. Fishtailed and I overcorrected into an 8" high curb, then hit a concrete wall to top things off. I was only doing about 30 but the centrifugal force did some serious damage. Sheared the passenger rear axle off just behind the tire. Bent axle tube, busted rotor in half. Tore up caliper, bent frame, not bad but rolled slightly. Bed shoved over about 3/4" and shoved up into cab on both sides. Entire bed side scratched and lip cracked. Muffler pushed up, pipes bent, driveshaft dented. Front end air dam not bad but it knocked the front lower grill out tearing out the little tabs that hold it in (what a crappy way to hold that grill, I cant believe it stays in at 145mph). Total is at $9500 and that is before they get inside the tranny. It was making some really ugly noises before I could get it shut off. I hope it was only the busted axle locking up and causing the tranny noise.

Pictures can be found in my gallery. But be FOREWARNED, it's bloody ugly.

What a dumbazz (let the comments :throw: begin, LOL).

I have had mustangs for years and had them squirrelly a million times without getting into a situation like this. At least I have full coverage, but there goes any resale.

The good news (if there is any in this situation) is the body shop guy is working with me on used (low mile) parts and some aftermarket goodies to go back on her.

Only one thing to say to this, Atleast you're ok. People are human they make mistakes, so anyone who has the balls to come on here and rip you is full of themselves. Hopefully all is taken care of and you won't be out of her too long ;p

That sucks man! I learned real quickly that when these things get outa shape they can definitely be a handful! Not sure if it's the 4500lbs or the auto tranny, but it will sure make ya pucker trying to regain control. :eek2: :tu:

Tommy,

Glad your OK! Only $9500 for all that damage? You might try getting another estimate a "pricey" shop and have them total it.

BTW, there's a white and silver '04 L sitting for almost a week at Bankston/Frisco.

Wow, cool, glad you came out that well, but bet you would trade it for your L back. There is another waiting to be adopted by you out there somewhere.

One of my ponys was a auto and wasnt bad course it didnt have 380hp either, LOL. I just think 4500lbs builds up A LOT of momentum really quick with these things.

The estimate is from a ford dealer. Figured they would be the highest! And my insurance lady told me they wouldnt even look at totally a 5 month old L without over $20,000 in damages. Don't think I can get there even with a new tranny.

And Texas is a state that does not allow you to fight the insurance company for the difference in resale between non-hit and hit vehicle. Industry standard is an 8% allowance which seems kinda low to me.

A moment of silence, please.

Yo, man. That bites down hard! Are you the dude I saw on Harry Hines late one night? I was on my yellow TL-R with the loud pipes. So glad you are OK. The toys can always be replaced, but the kinds of people that truly enjoy and respect something special like a Lightning are few and far between. Keep your chin up, and think happy thoughts.

Hopefully the L will live to light 'em up another day!!!http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/nana.gif

Having road-raced and auto-crossed mine, I can tell ya it's a combination of excess power :D and driver-reactions. At the A-X at TMS last month, I had Mason (one of the SVTTexas guys and a SCCA instructor) riding with me, and when I wiped out on the back slalom, I had lit the tires up coming out of the first sweeper, and when I changed directions into the slalom, the suspension and frame were already loaded up and I was already going too fast, and so the tail came around, and that's where *I* screwed up, because as Mason pointed out, I wasn't fast enough trying to collect it, and I was trying to collect it without lifting. On the third oscillation, I let it go and I spun. No biggie, we were laughing about it, but the lesson was learned: when I lost it, I wasn't agressive enough in trying to collect it--and I don't know how.

Tommy, I feel your pain, man. I'm not gonna flame you, but as soon as you get your truck fixed, I would strongly suggest you hit a performance driving school (SCCA is having one this month, but it's closed already), and then flog your beast on a track some, to get a feel for waht it will do to bite you when you do lose it.

They are very easy to drive on the track, I can balance it on the edge all day long. It's the power that can get you, if you're not careful.

Good luck with it, bub.. :bows
