Just got back from goodyear, They told that the noise i've been hearing for the past several months is a spun bearing. I don't ask much guys, Can someone help me out here. It's an 01 with 25500 miles on it, 6 months out of warranty. Terry can you help me out?. It also sounds like it's time for a line lock:tu:

spun a bearing? i dont know much about rearends (only enough to change the fluid and to not mess with them) but i havent heard of that happening, only the clutches getting eaten up with time. i figured most of the bearings are in the motor. is it a whine or a knock?

There are only three "bearings" in a rear-end. Two go on the actual carrier and one on the pinion. I have never heard of spinning a bearing in the rear-end. What kind of noise are you hearing??? a growl, rattle,or knocking????

actually there a 4 bearing sets in the rear diff not counting the axel bearings. 2 for the carrier and 2 for the pinion 1 is pressed on the pinion and the other goes in from the front of the diff cover where the pinion seal is. problems back there are easy to diagnose dont take it to the dealer. if you need help give me some specifics as i have been in these 9.75's a few times.

Hey, i'm just quoting what the guy told me at goodyear. I don't have a lot of trust with alot of those kinds of places, thats why i would like you to take a look & listen. I would like to get to the problem before the problem gets to me. I'm hoping this week sometime, if work permits that is. i'll call you.

Nick

i have seen quite a few rear pinion bearing races spin in the case. the dealer will tell you the diff housing is bad. but its nothing the a new bearing and race seated with some green lock-tite cant fix. you'll know if it spun as the outer race surface will be blue.
