Anyone Have a In-Truck Video Camera Mount?

OK, now that I've got this fancy-shmanzy digital video camera, I want to do some videos, but need to figure out how to mount the camera in the truck. Most mounts I've seen on the Internet are cage mounts, and since I don't have a cage I can't really use them. Anybody have any ideas, or have something that they could recommend that will remain fairly steady even under WOT? I'm looking to mount the camera above the console specifically for the TMS Charity Laps thing next month.

I'm trying to work through some ideas on how to build one as well, but I can't turn on my engineering brain this morning.

An easy mount might be done with a side window mount - EIther suctions cups or better yet an over the edge window mount

IN other words a bracket that slides over the top edge of the open window and has a padded brace that hits the glass lower

Seems like it would be easy to fabricate if you had the right equipment

SHould be stable and easy to install - remove

ANother idea would be a bracket that goes in the sliding window track from top to bottom ... Once again would need to be fabricated but would provide a central view

You could mount that to the back or passenger window.


I've seen several AutoX'ers just bungee a tripod down to the passenger or rear seats.

I would use a suc mount. Anything else is likely to scratch up the tint. Or screw a bracket to the back wall:D

Duct tape is all fine and good, but I only use that stuff to fix something that's broken. Only two tools in my tool box: a hammer and duct tape.

Here is the unit I've got on order. It looks like a nice piece. Hopefullly it'll be sturdy too. I'll try it out and hopefully I'll get some good video at the Charity Laps event and at LFest.

I have also found that I can plug my camera into my audio/video master unit and display what the camera sees on the DVD screen, so this is going to be a really cool and functional set up for events in the truck!

Not yet, but that's going to happen soon. Only problem with that is the rear view mirror gets in the way and, since I feed the picture through the DVD player, I get that in the picture too. I'm still deciding how I'm going to mount it for TMS. If I wanted to get really crazy I could mount it outside the truck for ultimate effect...

Watched the vids-kewl! You might get a better field of view from the back window, tho, just swing your mirror up and away to get it out of the field of view. ;)

I mounted it closer to the headliner and put some padding between the camera and headliner to stiffen things up. I'm going to try the back window next.

It does have image stabilizer.

The exhaust is the wild cat-back that Performance Research offers (L8 APEX). Basically twin Magnaflow bullets on a custom built cat-back. I can't wait to put th long tubes and hi-flows on!

Check this place it. Some of their mounts cost more but you get what you pay for. BTW with these mounts you can mount that sucker on the roof and it wont fall off, fellow Audi owner has one and he hauls ass with it mounted to sunroof

That's basically what I have....a triangular sticky pod with three suction cups. I like the setup, and it didn't cost me a left nut to buy!

Actually this one doesnt cost a left nut, only 59 bucks, less your left nut is worth 59 bucks :d :rll: Seriously though, I think both are good what I like about the stickyPod is that they say it can be and go on to show you that it can be mounted on the outside of the vehicle. This is way cool, You can do some pretty cool shots, like over the front wheelwell, on roof, on bed cover if you have one, hood... This would be especially cool during the caravan up to KS.

That is a cool video. A lot of the footage they got I can get through the glass, though. I am going to attempt a couple of shots with the camera mounted to the side of the truck eventually, though. I want to try a drive down the road with the camera attached to the back fender watching the wheel and the exhaust. One of these days I'll give it a shot...maybe with the old camera first, in case I dump it...

Another thing you might try is having an external mic pic up. Most Camcorders have them. This way you can mount the cam in the rear but have the mic close to the exhaust (not too close) It comes out awesome cause you can hear the gear changes, the exhaust note and some road noise. ITs pretty cool. I used to do that on my bike. I'd cruise around some twisties or ride wheelies and the video and sound was cool!

Just recieved my Chase Cam camera mount and took some video of different spots on the Vette, really a nice setup with big suction cups, worked well when I mounted the camera on the side of the car, took video of on the side of the car, back window, and windshield
