View Full Version : # of Sonic Blue L's produced?

Someone told me the other day that there were only 576 sonic blue L's produced. The guy wasn't sure if that was 03 and 04 added together or just 04's. I know they are kinda unusual as I have never seen one on the street, only at a TALON event or on a dealers lot. I think it would be interesting to know. I would be really surprised if the number were that low. I get comments on the color of my truck almost anywhere I stop.

Is there any way to confirm this? Anyone know if ford has put out the production #'s by color?

Check the NLOC site and run a search on production #'s and color. There were a ton of posts/threads production #'s and color breakdown. BTW white was the rarest for 03:tu:

When I bought my 04 L (Sonic Blue) back in November I was automatically given a subscription to SVT magazine - worthless by the way, but it also entitled me to an SVT history book that is a keeper. Inside this book it shows production numbers for all SVT vehicles per color. This data is for 2002 I believe, the sonic blue lightning was the second most produced color slightly behind black. Both colors were above 5000 for that year. I was surprised to see this since I had thought blue was kinda rare like you have stated. Maybe its rare in this part of the country..don't know. In the SVT book white was very rare with less than 300 produced. Maybe they got the white and blue mixed up.

Ran the search on NLOC and thanks to "scriced" ie Scott here is the info.

Year.....Black.....Red......White......Silver..... .Blue.......Grey.......Total 1999....1,601....1,533......866........NA......... NA..........NA........4,000
2000....1,596....1,405......928......1,037.......N A..........NA........4,966
2001....1,908....1,722....1,170.....1,581........N A.........NA........6,381
2002....1,198....1,086......294......1,018......1, 130.......NA........4,726
2003....1,036......735.......606........NA........ .723......1,170......4,270
2004.......843......648.......428.......618....... .596.........648......3,781
Totals..8,182....7,129.....4,292.....4,254.....2,4 49......1,818.....28,124

Lots of interesting stuff there. True Blue's end up being the rarest color with only the 02 production of 1130 followed by the Sonic Blue with 1319 then the Grey with 1818. Black and Red end up being the most common as is usual with most car lines. For single year production the 04 White takes the trophy with only 428 even though it is the 3rd most common color over all 6yrs of production.

But no matter what with only 28,000 produced this is truly a limited item especially for a company the size of Ford. It will definitely be a true collectors item some day. I know every young guy (under 25 that is not a ricer) I run into knows what these trucks are and they drool over them.

Should make for some interesting resale values in about 10-15 years for unmodified good condition trucks. I know low mileage nice 93 Cobras in unmodified condition (11years later) are selling for around their original sticker now. Just goes to show what a hot/fast car/truck in limited numbers is like.

These numbers match the SVT book I had received from Ford up to 2002. Its safe to assume the 03 and 04 numbers areaccurate also. My bad earlier, memory loss is not just for computers.

Actually the 02 White is the rarest single year production with just 294. I doubt it will raise it's value any. My understanding is that the first and last years of a style usually make one year more valuable than another. That may not be true though and I don't remember the source.

Since I have an 02 white, I hope whoever told me that was wrong.
