Does anyone have a pic of any L (or any car) that has black powdercoated wheels WITHOUT the polished/chrome lip?

I am going to get my wheels powdercoated but not sure I like the polished lip. Just want to see what a wheel with tire would look like all black. I think it will look funny but want to know before I make up my mind.

I have seen pics of Terry's wheels on his L and Z06 and Laurances wheels in person.

You have to get them polished or it just looks like a huge spare tire:vomit:

The black wheel without the polished lip makes it difficult to tell where the tire starts and the wheel stops.

The polished lip is a perfect example of a small detail making a HUGE difference in an overall effect. It just has a much sharper look IMO. Just my .02.:tu:

I'm still debating on whether to get some '99-00 wheels painted DSG to match the truck or not.

I don't see how you effectively polish the lip of a one-piece, cast wheel like our stock wheels. Where does the paint/powdercoat stop and the polished surface begin?

In my head I'm seeing a two or three-piece wheel like the HRE's and that looks fine. A stock L wheel? Not so sure.

Terry and/or Rob,

Either of you guys have a hook-up on HRE's? Fikse doesn't make wheels for trucks, or I'd get some of those.

Feel free to PM me off-line.

TIA,

-Wes

Alpine,

Those look good. Did someone in the area do the work on those?

I have sold a few sets to discerning customers
Rob's 640R's polished lip/black centers 9.5 front 10.5 rear for DR's.

Chrome/silver 841R's 04 Cadillac CTS V
OE sizes for OE tires.

Chrome/black classic 540's 03 Z06 all 18" 9.5/10.5rear

I definately recommend chrome lips over polished. And though all three of these are painted centers I believe the anodized to be longer lasting. But nobody coughs up the dough for that. I think Ed Okkalla ran the HRE 547's. Notice all HRE's shown are rolling with Brembo binders, a must to be civilized:bows

Talking about powder coated wheels. Who would you recommend to powder. If possible does someone know of anyone in San Antonio that can do the job? Also, can wheels that have been powder coated one color be recoated another color??

Wes,
The stock wheel in the pic with the polished lip is Jake's(jcblack). They're actually painted as opposed to powdercoated. I know they were done at a place over in Dallas, but don't know the name of the company offhand.

I'm pretty sure Jeff(Alpine) or Jake could put you in touch with them. The wheels on Jake's truck look SAWEEEET!!!:bows I think your truck with DSG wheels WITH the polished lip would look really sharp, and different as well. Just my .02.

As far as the HRE's. Terry got me a great deal on those wheels. If you decide to go that route, make sure you talk to him. He saved me over $1500.00 dollars as compared to another local HRE dealer. Those wheels are the Shiznit Fo Sho!!....as Terry would say.:d

Goodluck with your decision:beer: ,

Thanks for the info Terry and Rob.

My '99 white L looked great with painted '99 wheels (white). I had the local Ford dealer do them and they turned out excellent. Personally, I'd go painted over powdercoating as they can match the paint much better (obviously). They held up very well, too.

Retail the 640 series for HRE's with _no_ upgrade options is ~$4800. That's a tough pill to swallow. I would probably want to get the polished lip clearcoated as well. I know this takes a bit off the shine, but it also makes for a lot easier cleaning, something I have to consider with 3 vehicles that I try and keep spotless (wife's truck...oh well, its the 4th but at the bottom of the food chain). I think whatever I do I will have a wheel that is painted DSG. It would be different, unique, and I think it would look good.

The cheapest route is a set of '99-00 wheels (my personal favorite L wheel) that I have painted locally.

the wheels can be recoated more than once . for example silver to black. i do powder coating but live north of dallas . a mirror black with the polished ring looks good . you can get different degrees of shine . mirror black has the best shine .

here's an example of iredesent black with uot the polished lip .

The name of the place that did my wheels is called "Wheel Repair by Adam". Thay are in Dallas off of Harry Hines. They do really good work. The number is (214) 357-5400. Ask for Kirk Edwards and tell him that Jacob, the guy with the first set of black lightning wheels with the polished lip done by them, sent you that way. Hope that helps.

K, here is the reason to have the polished lip. The gray looks ok but without the polished lip, just doesnt look right.

Well, I think it looks silly on anything but a grey truck, so that doesn't help any.
