I've always been told don't get brake cleaner fluid on my paint, cause it will damage it.

Beyond that, I haven't heard anything else.

Acetone will remove the black and should not harm the paint. I know of several guys who have used it with good results.

When I did mine 2 years ago I used a new set of badges (found them on EBay for like $40 bucks), just in case I damaged the originals removing them, and used Acetone to take the black paint off. I removed the ones that came on the truck with lighter fluid and a flat head screw driver. Some guys use fishing line instead of a screw driver to remove. Either way should work out nicely. The Acetone will easily remove all of the black in only a few minutes. Just submerge each badge face down in the Acetone until all of the black is gone. Then rinse with water, dry, peel off backing tape (usually blue) to expose the adhesive and slide badges back on truck.

Sorry, but newbie has a few questions. What do you guys mean "chrome" badges? Does this stuff just give the normal Lightning badges a new look, or are yall talking about a different badge?

Can you do this with the emblems still on the truck? Sounds like a simple mod that could be very beneficial to stand out a little bit.

ya there are certain things you can put on your badges that will strip the black off of it and they will be all chrome looking...

im having second thoughts now if I should do it or not, i like the look of it, and I really like it on a black truck... but I have no other chrome (rims, etc)... so im thinking it might look out of place

steve, jeff, etc....

man I would love to come by saturday... but im having my sons birthday party he turned 4... but maybe next saturday or whenever you guys get together again... there are a few things I would like to do to my truck and would love to have experts around... i really need to change my plugs, they havent been changed or even checked since I bought the truck back in last November... and I also need new brake pads... figure I can get my rotors turned at pep boys or somewhere for like $10 each.... but Iv never done plugs or brakes, so im hesitant to jump into that myself... just let me know whens good for you guys...

With your black truck I think an all chrome embelm will jump out at you, which in my opinion would look great. My truck is white and with the black steps, bumper trim and side mirrors I like the black back ground on the emblems. Worst case is you don't like it and you replace them.

I'm here all the time. Every Saturday about 4 to 5 people show up to use my garage, each and drink my food, and some even leave half empty beer cans lying around in odd places:nono: - they're like pesky gremlins you just can't rid of.

I wouldn't call us experts either- come check at the stellar job we did when installing the AC in the garage- talk about dumb and dumber:hammer:
