Or lack thereof..
I got this article in our community newsletter. There have been some break ins during the day and they said this about it. Kaufman Broad KB as they are known built the doors jams where the deadbolt is held by the sheetrock and door moulding. So they just push in failry easy. Fortunately I am a paranoid bastard and I always add steel to my doorjams. But this really sucks to show the lack of quality from one of the largest builders in the US:Bullshit

KB is building wifey and I a home in Euless as we speak. It should be completed sometime in November. I will have to look into some added security measures.

Does'nt KB make toys?
Just kidding of course.
You can secure most door jams with 3' screws so that they are anchored into the nearest wall stud. This keeps the door jam from being kicked completely off the wall. The dead bolt resting in sheet rock does'nt seem right. Regardless, there are several options you can weigh when the time comes. Post a pic if possible and let all the handymen chime in.
good luck

Best option for exterior 1-3/4" doors are steel Doors and Frames. Good ones have great insulating value. And the maintenance is almost null. However, steel frames for residential use are more difficult to find.
Avoid 1/2 Lite Doors (half window). Otherwise use a double cylinder deadbolt on it.
An alternative is to install a nice storm door with lock on the outside of the existing door and frame. Half lite with single hung sash runs about $225 installed from Lowes.
Then there is always Alarm systems or burgler bars. :(
Basically, all your trying to do is make it more difficult for someone to get through the door.

A rotweiller is also a good option. Just don't plan on having any other dog in the house.

Here's one of mine and Elaine's home security "measures". :evil
It's an Ultimate Bright-Stainless Colt Gov. Model .45 with 230 gr. Winchester Silver Tips.knana Notice my reflection? :D I'd like to upgrade to one of those Kimber polymer/SS double-stacks down the road. :bows
I alternate Black Talons and Hydra-Shocks in the Beretta 92 FS 9mm magazine. I seem to remember the 9mm rds. were like ~147 gr.
Good info. on KB homes.

I'll have to concur with Doug. Granted we all can blow the crap outta someone breaking in, but a lot of us actually have a job, in a office, at some other location.
Leaving your home for work or just for dinner plans, you should have some satisfaction that it is somewhat secure.

You're right Mark they don't kick the door in while you are loaded and ready. They wait till you drive off for 8-14 hours and do their bidding. The 100lb disgruntled Shepherd takes care of the rear of the house and shed. All there is in the front is steel doors and alarm system. Hopefully the security lights and cameras will deture dumb thugs. I keep what I can in the safe to limit my losses. But you got to live life and just try not to be an easy target.
