You know I have met countless L owners and Talon members that are in the IT field. I, myself is in the IT field here at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Just seems all of us L owners have more than just L's in common. Great minds think alike.

It's funny you should mention this... my last project was at Belo / Dallas Morning News. What a coincidence!
I've been in IT since '98 (well, '97 if you count college internships).
I've been into computers since childhood. I remember my brand-new Commodore 64 and 128 from Montgomery Wards and writing programs on them with Mom/Dad's hand-me-down black-white TV and saving data on actual cassette tapes.:)
Later on, I grabbed the color TV.
BTW, the Telegram hiring? :tu:

i almost hate to admit it, but I'm in IT. I'm still in the old school version, though. One day, hopefully not too soon, I will become obsolete in this field.

Mark,
:crying: :D
Tom,
I've had top-notch IT professors/deans at OU preach to us that the industry was moving from the "dinosaur" mainframe environments to a client-server / distributed architecture.
That was '97/'98.....

Well I sell CO2 and beer gas systems, which has absolutely nothing to do with IT or WMS or cable systems.
But without me none of you would have any fizz in your soda
or beer with just the right amount of carbonation or a good head on it!!!

Im kinda in IT... actually more like IS.. I do information security work for Computer Science Corporation.. the account I am with is the Shell Oil account.. my role is referred to as a "white hat" within the organization. I do alot of investigative/forensic type work on the account. Its pretty interesting at times, however I have alot of down time during the day.

I am an IT consultant with 30 years of tired iron experience. Currently consulting in Washington DC.;)

Milton,
I assume tired iron = big iron = main frame = IBM mainframes?
Just curious, as a Consultant, I've been W2 on four different engagements with one being per-diem arrangement out of state.
Two of my IT road-warrior friends swear by 1099, but that whole quarterly tax thing concerns me.
Which have you found to be the most "effective" long term?

my2002lightning,
I am purely 1099 and am a consulting company of 1. We have just finished consolidating 8 mainframe data centers into 2, replacing all of the hardware, upgrading all of the software, consolidating 300-400 servers, rebuilding the two datacenter structures, etc.
The next assignment here will be consoidating a federal agencies IT organization for 16+ (they are not sure how many they have) data centers into 2.
IBM Z800 or Z900 boxes running Z/OS, Servers running Mickey Soft, Some RISC6000 and a few AS400, but mainly the Z series of IBM, oh and some IBM X boxes.

Milton,
While on the subject, if you are a "one-man" company, why aren't you Corp-to-Corp? Just curious.
Also, if your domicilary is TX and your engagement is in DC, are you hit with state taxes where your engagement is located?
The reason I ask is that I (well, we) are considering a 4 mo. gig in CA.
Also, I assume you are married - if I go W2 or 1099, how is airfare/hotel/rental car handled for tax purposes here in TX. if the fiance/wife travels every other flight?
Thanks for any info,
Ronald
