555R vs F1's

Any comments?, im about to order the 555r's for all 4. Any regrets, comments, suggestions, let me know, let em out. And yes I do plan on dragging with these tires, but can't afford another set of rims / slicks ( I owe too many ticket fees, and parents).

Go with the NT555s if you want longevity out of the tires. The 555Rs are drag radials (I think) and you'll get about 10,000 miles out of them. A lot of guys do the 555s up front and the 555Rs in back, but remember that the 555Rs will not last too long. Putting 555Rs on all four corners will be a waste of $$$ in my opinion.

I've got the 555s and love them. I'm at about 14,000 miles on them and they still look brand new.

Good Advice, Thanks. What really are the difference between the drag radial R's and the 555's. Is it just a softer compound? Cuz im all about tires lasting longer than 10k but I do have a traction problem at the track.

You'll be fortunate to get 8-10k miles out of them, and they are not a great rain tire (although 1000x better than a BFG drag radial in the wet).

Also, correct me if im wrong but I believe the 555R's do not come in the 295's only 305's is that right?

Yes, I believe you are correct. I have not ordered them for my L, but I think they are 305/45-18 for the R-series.

I have to disagree! I have the Nittto 555 (not the Drag Radial) on the back and I have a very serious traction problem. I hooked up way better on the Goodyears!!!!!!

My Nittos hook up almost as good as the F1's, but they kick their arse in the wet.. I probably wont go back..

Nittos kick arse in the wet? I would think the R's are going to pretty much suck in the rain...I dunno guess I'll find out.

i beleive thats what they go for on the website as well... not much of a discount if u ask me. but i could be wrong. If he discounts anything its probly the install...

Yeah its not much of a discount but if your replacing all 4 it helps. He's only asking $190 for the 555's and i think 210 for the F1's. Also you get no warranty options for the 555R...which I guess is understandable due to that its a drag radial.

I've got the 555's as well, and I find they're stickier and have much better wet handling and water control overall, than the F1s. Not only that, but they ride much quieter, and aren't as rough as the F1s.

Avalanche and I were talking about them, and he told me that their compound is "Type2", versus F1s "Type3" compound, where 2 is softer; he also mentioned that he was told that the Nittos are excellent street tires but can lose their stickiness when overheated, either by burnouts or by open tracking.

I did'nt say "555R", I said "555", the street radial. Rs are a whole different ballgame, and if they're the DRAG radial, they're meant to heat up more and get stickier; the street tires are NOT meant for that.

They just wear way too fast. 20,000 miles is just not enough out of tires. I had a Toyota 4x4 before the L and I had 60,000 miles on the BFG tires on it with only 1/3 wear on it.

There is a trade off in the L world, and there isnt much middle ground. If you go for mileage, the traction really drops and you spin your wheels too much. If you go for traction, then you get 20k miles on the tires.. I went for the Nitto 555's because they are the best of both worlds, IMHO. They seem to wear pretty good but give you decent traction. They are way better in the rain than the F1's. But the F1's reign supreme for dry traction but they just dont wear as well..

Dont know yet because I havent had them that long, but can tell they are wearing better. Others have said the same. The wear factor that the feds use is the same as the F1's but you can tell they just hold up better and dont cost as much as the F1's.
Its funny because I was going to get F1's again, but I couldnt find any anywhere and got the Nittos. Now I am glad I did. Terry has a good hookup for the Nittos in Arlington.

How many miles out of the 555s?

A couple of members have reported in the 36K range, so to me that's acceptable. When I autocrossed at Pennington in July (on concrete), it was okay on worn F1s; but the next month (August) at Pennington, I ran on the 555s, and the difference was like night and day. Much better turn-in and grip, overall, and on the road they run quieter.

After having the 555R's for a while, I love em. I have a very hard time spinning them like I could the F1's. They have a much better grip. Even though their going to last me 10k miles. I guess thats something you have to live with.

Just installed my 555R's a few days ago. IMO they can't be beat on the street. I love them!
