Yes, I know I just bought it, and I've put a little $$ into it. However, with two growing kids I am considering getting me something with 4-seats. The L is a business vehicle, but my dad is getting ready to get rid of his beater '91 S-10 truck (and yes, its a POS). Thing is, when I have to haul something really nasty(some renters suck!), I use his S-10 anyway. It's basically free if I want to take it off his hands.

So I'm considering selling the L and getting an '03-04 Cobra. I know I'm going to take a beating on the L, but since they're not making any more, maybe I won't do horribly. 4600 miles, $27k? Is this a fair price?

Hate to hear that you need to sell. The price as of 10-16-2004 you can get a new Lighting from a DFW Ford dealer is around 27300.00 plus TTL. There is a 2000$ rebate from ford to dealer right now. A buyer can get that 2000.00 off the truck and a dealer discount to bring the truck down to the low 27,000$ for a New L

I think you can get 24000$ I know thats bad but a New one is 27300.00 right now.People dont really give you much money for general mods.

There is one good thing though. Some people do not know how to get the Lowest possible price for a new truck. Some people pay close to sticker. So, if you get lucky, you may find some that will pay 27K. They will think it a great deal because they are looking at the sticker price of 33500.00 at the dealer for the L. They do not realize they can buy it for 27300.00.

For example,my friend thought he got a great price on the L. He was telling me he got them to take off 2000.00 from the sticker for 2004. So he paid 31500.00 plus TTL. We had bought our trucks at the same dealer in the same week. He ask me what I paid. I told him I forgot, because he was my friend and I did not want him too feel bad about his truck/purchase. I paid 28300.00

I hope you get what you need for it.

Jim,

I don't need to sell it. I bought it at a $100 over invoice, but that was before the rebates hit. :( I didn't see any rebates on the L's right now, but my info may be old. There are rebates on the '04 Cobras that are left ($2500), so I was hoping to use that to get a Cobra.

Knowing that there are rebates on the L's... yeah, it doesn't sound like there's any feasible way to sell it. I know I'd take a hit, but I'm not an idiot, so I will probably just hang on to it. It's paid for.

I've had a Gen 2 L for 5 years now. Great truck. I just don't need _two_ trucks. But I'm not going to pass up a $400 '91 S-10 beater w/ only 43k miles on it. It looks like crap, and can't get out of its own way, but its great for hauling junk or dirty tools, etc. When you have rent property, its good to have a vehicle like this.

But maybe this gives me an excuse to mod the L more than I had originally planned. :evil

Or... just stick it on E-bay and see if there's someone like you said who thinks they have to pay $30-33k for a new one.

Yes, I understand what you saying. I drive a 1977 Thunderbird junker to go to work in and everyday life. The L for fun/leisure. Keep the L and get the S-10 too! :)

You could always ask the dealership what they'll give you for it.....maybe CarMax ??

Good luck whatever your decision.

It's not a 2K rebate to the customer. It's 2K marketing support from the factory to the dealer.

yes, 2000.oo marketing support. The dealer will take that off the truck too, plus they discount their own.
