Fuel filter

Yesterday I heard some detonation, first time ever.

Same tank of gas I've been running for the past 4 days, What's up?

Detonation=lean=no gas.

I decided to change the fuel filter, easy job by the way.

No detonation today.

Seams odd to me that a fuel filter could cause this but it appears that it did.

Do you believe that this was the problem?

Mark, from previous threads, I believe the concensus is to change the fuel filter every 10k miles.
Had it been a while since it was changed?

12,500 miles. First time changed.

Go_rila is having similar problems. He went 47K on his first filter and has 56K right now. Will probably change it this weekend along with the water pump. The "miss" is always in a situation that requires maximum fuel flow which is most of the time. :cool:

Interesting. I am on 15k and first filter. Guess its change time eh?

I would say yes. I'm going to cut my old one open tonight.

FYI, NAPA sells a really nice fuel filter line tool for $16, or you can borrow mine.

Sounds good!
What filter do I need to get?
Part #?
Is there any one filter that is better than any other or anything like that?
Do you have a part # on the fuel filter line tool?
Also, are you using that breather cap yet? If not uh... can I have it back? :D

NAPA Gold# 3595 is what I used.

Line wrench, is just an X tool 5/16" on one encd 3/8" on the other, mine is steel, some are plastic, both will work.

I have had the breather cap on for the past 2K miles, seems to be working fine.
