I completed the conversion on my 69 Cougar's motor this afternoon and got it back running...

Converted the motor from a 351windsor to a 351 Cleavor. Which, for the unedumacated, is a 351 Windsor shortblock with Australian 2v Cleveland heads.

Monster 2.19 inch intake valves and 1.89 exhausts... Ported and polished heads, new set of Hooker Super Comps, Crane roller rockers and a very rare set of Ford Motorsport Stud girdle valve covers...

Mucho stronger than the old setup, which was good for a 14 flat quarter. This sucker pulls all the way through 6200rpm (I backed off)... Should be in the low 13's now...

Isn't the 351W a much better block? At least thats what I've been told for going fast. What carb and size fuel line are you feeding those LARGE valves???lol

The Cleveland is a much better choise only if you have the 4V heads. The 4V heads have larger intake and exhaust runners. I think the valves are also larger. That's why you're not allowed to run Cleveland motors in various classes.

You should stuff a bigblock in that thing, talk about a sleeper!

I think Logan's Cougar has been bad-assified beyond the point of being a sleeper. :p

Sounds pretty sweet Logan. I'm surprised you had time to work on it, what with all the diaper changing. :d

Nope. I don't. It's a 351 Windsor shortblock, with Australian 2v Cleveland heads. The Aussie 2v heads carry 2.19 intake valves as opposed to the American 2v heads which have smaller 1.9 intake valves... Hence, 351 Cleavor. On my heads, they've been ported and port matched to the 4v runner on the intake.

The American 4v heads have the 2.19 intake valves same as the Aussie 2v heads.

Ultimately, it's the best of both worlds. The strength and reliability of the Windsor block and oiling system combined with the flow of the Aussie 2v heads.

The windsor is a more popular motor as the cleveland was discontinued ages ago and are no longer generally available new. Nascar made heavy use of the Cleveland and it's very popular in racing.

The stud girdle valve covers shown here are a rare piece that was discontinued well over 15 years ago, today, if you can find a set, you'd pay well beyond the $1000 mark for a decent set with all the hardware.
