Foglight switch mod on '04 L

Crawford was saying he read/heard somewhere that the ol' foglight switch mod does not work on 03 or 04 Ls. Anyone know more about this?

Which fog light mod? There are esentially 2.

One where you cut the plastic in the switch so the fog lights can come on in auto mode. I know this works, I've done it.

The other is where you splice the fog lights so that they come on when your park lights come on. I don't know why this one wouldn't work. I believe I've heard of other '03 and '04s doing it.

funny thing, I tried to take the plastic piece off on the console that surrounds the headlight knob to mod it, but I couldn't get the stupid thing off, I got half of it off, but I was too scared I was gonna break it. Hmmm

I thought I read Terry post that doing that mod on the 03 or 04s causes the interrior light to come on with the door open chime or something. I could be totally mistaken.

i spliced the wires with a connector, the only thing is that the fog lams come on no matter what position the switch is on, i didnt do the grind mod for the fog lamps

I did the mods in the switch so you could select fog lamps in any mode auto or parking etc.. I don't really like the scotch lok splice mod. It runs the fogs all the time in rain (when they crack) you can't shut them off. I also believe it skips the fog lamp relay and pulls extra current through the supply circuit. I would have to look at it on a schematic for sure. If I have time I will start modding switches again. I just don't like hard wiring the fogs on with a jicky crimp connector:hammer: .

Just use a jumper wire from #2 and #12, no splicing. Plus, it only takes a few seconds to bring back to stock.:tu: This will only allow the fog lights to come on when you pull strait out on the switch in the park position and the normal operation with the headlights. To do this requires a slight "modification" of the switch. I think Terry has another way to do it without any jumper or splicing at all, which would be the best, I just dont have any idea how he does it. Right Yoda?:D

Crawford - Name the time and place son, for I am without Dremel, and lo it is a bad place to be. :(

I don't care about how easy it is to go back to stock - I will have the truck a while and I traded the last one off with it with no problems. Its not like the next person will ever know it wasnt supposed to be that way. It should have been like that from the start! :)

I run my fogs on my '04 whenever the auto lights come on. Rain or shine. I've never had a problem with them cracking. I know it was an issue on older L's, but didn't they revise the fogs for the '04 and maybe the '03 model?
