The interchange of Spring Valley Road and N. Central Expressway will be complete in October 2002. This three-level interchange will provide a depressed roadway under N. Central Expressway for traffic on Spring Valley Road.
By the end of this week, an additional lane will be opened to traffic on the northbound frontage road of N. Central Expressway. This additional lane is the inside mandatory left turn lane to westbound Spring Valley. This will provide some improvement in traffic flow.
The City of Richardson maintains the traffic signal at this intersection. Because the traffic demand is greater than the roadway capacity, the traffic backup in all directions takes 8 to 10 minutes on each approach to clear the intersection. During the peak periods, Richardson signal technicians are continually fine-tuning the traffic signal timing by viewing cameras showing the traffic movements at this location.
