View Full Version : Recommended gun-shops in DFW ?

Here's my dilemma:
The .300 Win. Mag. is beating the hell out of my right shoulder after 25+ rds. (right-side jaw is even sore) and my groups are getting worse - I'm thinking "trigger jerk" as I'm anticipating recoil.
Sumb!tch, it still hurts! :crying: Time to go back to the SS Mini-14 and the "powder-puff" high-vel. 62 gr. rounds, I suppose.
I'm thinking that a good adjustable drop-in trigger for a Ruger M77 MkII (stainless steel/synthetic) would work out well. A good 2-3 lb. adj. drop-in outfit, I'm thinking.
Anyone have suggestions for recommended shops around the DFW area?
BTW, Bass-Pro in Grapevine can't bore-sight/scope a rifle at all. They had the scope on my .50 Remington SS/Syn. blackpowder rifle hanging on by ONLY 1-2 threads! No wonder Regan and Dad were doing good to keep it on the paper!!! :hammer:

I always use Doc's Gun Shop in Carrollton, they are the best IMO.

I also need a good gun shop, but i'd like to find one here in Arlington of possible. I have an antique S&W Positive Police Special from the 1910s or 1920s that I want to get restored.

Are you looking to sell this rifle?

That's a beautiful rifle, but it hurts me just looking at it. My uncle had a bolt-action .270 Win that put a bruise on my shoulder from a day of firing it. The mini-14 was my favorite.
Are bolt-action rifles more accurate than semi-autos? I know that the semis don't kick as hard, so what's the advantage otherwise?

My dad and I collect those model rugers, from 22, .223, .243, 30-06, .270, .280, .300, .308, I'll have to look at the rest to see all the other models, my parents and I are in the process of moving so in about a week or two i'll post pics of the collection, my dad also collects shotguns, browning being his favorite.
if you are interestead in selling it my dad would probably buy it

Gary,
I would've probably said yes, Sunday! :crying: Actually, the only .300 Win. Mag. rifle I'd trade for would be the Remington SS fluted Sendero. Damned sexy rifle!

350,
Thanks! Ya' know, I can shoot my .44 Mag. Desert Eagle for a good while and not really feel it since you can bend your elbows and soak up some of that recoil - and the DE is front-heavy with all that muzzle-weight.
With the Ruger .300 Win. Mag. - you just have to seat it back on your shoulder, grab up tight and let that mule kick. :crying: Granted, I'm no bar-room bouncer bad-ass by any stretch, but I was nutsing-it-up big-time as I love hunting/shooting and it was actually hitting my pain threshold.:eek2:
From what I've read/researched, the bolt-actions are more accurate as the cartridge is locked by the bolt into the chamber and doesn't expend gas/pressure opening up the bolt as it would in an auto.
Also, that leaves more gas/pressure to push a faster (or heavier) bullet out the bbl. of a bolt-action.
If you get the chance, pick up a MAK-90 (it's a civilian AK-47) that shoots cheap 7.62x39 ammo. TONS OF FUN !!!!
BC,
I appreciate the offer, but I have a "special" bond, if you will, with the firearms I purchase (and my L for that matter) as I don't sell/trade in a day-trader fashion.
I'm liking this rain that's hitting the seed crops/fertilizer back home on the stands! knana

Damn, nice weponry there, dude. :eek2: Remind me to NEVER piss you off! :d
Question: how much does that .300 weigh?? I've fired a few of the wepons you've mentioned, and the .300 I've shot (don't ask me what kind, it's been a LONG time) didn't kick anywhere near the way you're describing that to kick. Extra mass does absorb kick, and given the tendency for guns to get lighter and lighter, that tells us *why* it's kicking you so hard.
I was thinking maybe a better shoulder pad, either on the shirt or the rifle, but I'm no expert, and I doubt you can add mass to the rifle itself. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v111/texarcana/SMiles/shrug.gif

I had a Browning 300 win mag that I used in New Mexico for mule deer, and 15 years later I still have a flinch. If I can not kill it with a 308 Win, I have no business shooting at it!!

Tex,
This rifle weighs in at 7 3/4 lbs. http://www.ruger-firearms.com/Firearms/FAProdSpecsView?model=7921
The .300 Win. Mag. in the fluted Sendero is 8 1/2 lbs. http://www.remington.com/firearms/centerfire/700sendsf.htm
You sure the rifle you shot wasn't a 30-30? :D
Milton,
I hear ya' there! :o It's almost torture as I was only in a t-shirt. It's a little different if you're hunting with a ton of cold-weather clothing for added padding - but I agree.
I remember one hunting vid. I saw where this hunter in Alaska dropped this charging Grizzly with one shot from a .300 Win. Mag.! :eek2: And elk in CO./AZ. are as big as horses and relatively thicker skinned than white-tail. I want to hunt there someday. :tu:
Thanks for the Nix referral! This one other contractor at T-Mobile with me recommended some outfit named "N" something in L-Ville that was really good.
BC,
No problem.
Ronald
PS: Thought I would attach a pic of my "war-wounds" from the range. Yeah...yeah! I know I need to hit the gym! :D

Um, I dont think that's called a "shoulder"... mebbe you've got a mild location problem, instead of a kick problem. :d :tu:
Geepers... I've fired a couple of .300s, a .308, a 30-06, mini-14s, AR15s, a passell of shotguns, and handguns ranging from a .25 all the way up to .45 cal. The worst was the 12ga magnum double-barrel when cutting loose with both barrells... that thang KICKED!! :( But I've never fired a 30-30. (shrug)
What range do you go to, locally? Maybe they have a gunsmith available. I need to get out and fire my little peashooters, anyway, so maybe we can hook up and waste some ammo. :tu:
