well, here are some prices fro you.
OPTION 1:If you have "X" plan you get get a 2004 Lightning for 28100.00 plus TTL (give or take 100.00) This price is from X plan price minus 2300.00 in dealer cash to get to the 28100.00 plus TTL.
Option 2: If you DO NOT HAVE Xpaln Pricing, You can get a 2004 Lightning for around 28800.00 plus TTL with some Haggling. Be aware this may 500.00 less or 500.00 more so in this range 29000.00 plus TTL. Probably less though
So from looking at these numbers for a 2004 I would say no mre than 25K plus TTL. The dealer will give you all sorts of BS about how they are not making them anymore, they going to be classic, these truck are Rare so on. Tell them you can get a 2004 for 28100 to 29000.00
They truck is going to be 3 years old soon you drive off the lot in 2 months.
They are going to say no way and just tell them you can buy a 2 Year newer for only 3000.00 more.
I would go for a good buy and offer 24k .
Tell them you can get a 2004 for 28100.00 under Xplan pricing so what they think there 2002 is worth? tell them even if you not a Xplan custmer. Tell them to go see there self and pull a xplan price for 2004 less dealer cash. they will not be able to argue with that. Offer them 25K and if they dont take it spend just 3000.00 more and get a 2004. If this dealer want to move it he will sell it at 25k. it will be a loss for him. Good luck and dont pay more than 25k for that truck buddy.

Those 2002 engines still have those weak rods. If you plan to do some modding to it you might want to spend a "few" extra bucks to get an 03 or 04 with the more durable engines. Just a thought... http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif

I didn't know the 03-04 had different rods, I thought the lower ends were the same as the older ones?

In 2001 and 2002 Ford did "something" to the rods on those trucks to make them weaker than the other years. No one knows exactly what happened... maybe a change in supplier... but they are weak. In 2003 they got smarter... there were too many trucks coming in under warranty with broken rods so they once again did "something" to the rods to make them stronger.
