The truck was broken into today - They screwed up the door handle and both key cylinders.

They stole my digital camera and XM radio and the change thing from the console

I need your opinions on the best Alarms for home and auto - Need to do some upgrades...

Doug

PS - someone else is going to have to start taking pictures at events ...

Sorry to hear about your loss... that just sucks..

Best of luck.

Doug,

Sorry to hear! I've gone through the whole stolen vehicle ordeal and it sucks!:hammer:

I've had a Clifford IG-9000 on my '00 Lariat back in the day and it rocked! http://www.clifford.com/main.asp

You know me, I'll take pics at what events we attend.

Thieving bastards!:flaming:

Ronald

PS: Don't forget that Andrew Rodriguez / Recommended Section does very good paint work.

Damn Doug that sucks. I think the best alarms for both car and home are made by Smith - Wesson. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/devil.gif

I think the car alarm is probably a waste. If they want it bad enough they will get your stuff anyway, and when is the last time you were at the mall heard a car alarm go off and did something about it? Plus they can be a bitch to tweak just right so they aren't too sensitive/not sensitive enough.

The home alarm is a different story though IMO....

Sorry to hear about your misfortune...:(

Sorry to hear it Doug it is truely a matter of time for most of us:( . I may have a stock silver door handle but I am sure you will have it repaired by ins. I would get with Scott Raines on the alarm deal. I would get one with a two way remote so you are informed when the truck is tampered with. Otherwise you are unaware your truck is going off outside a store or restaraunt.. An alarm is only as good as the installation! As for home Brian may have an opinion on which companies monitor and dispatch calls in a timely fashion.

If the loss isnt 2x the decuctible isnt worth it

DougI'll get you any parts you need at cost. I can get a bare handle if the keypad is good. Give me a list by Email and I'll figure it up. The paint repair dude can come to the shop and fix anything they damaged outside of a handle if he is willing to:tu: .

I prefer the Colt .45 alarm, but both make great gifts.

That drives me crazy when guys pipe up about their guns and blowing away crooks. But fact is they do you no good when you are not there to stop the crime. Even if you catch them is it worth killing someone over a fricking camera or radio? I was pretty gung ho in my younger years knowing I had some serious hardware to wage war. Since those years I have talked to a few people who have pulled the trigger in those defense of property and or life situations. The sad fact is even though they were justified and no-billed by a grand jury for the criminal charges. The real liberal bear is the civil charges of wrongful death or whatever it is. One of them told me it cost him about 28 thousand dollars to defend himself in civil court for shooting at a criminal aggressor not even hitting them! Even though the police dismissed the criminal charges filed by the criminal. Keep in mind the way things are these days before you go blasting a kid for taking a material posession. I'd rather buy a new stereo vs. hire Shapiro and miss 3 months of work.

Right, I remember in Torts I/II class, you can't fire until you or a member of your immediate family is in immediate/imminent danger for their life.

Even meaning the guy that just put a pistol in your face(s) and demanded your wallets and he ran away and you drop him as he's evading... you still can't pull the trigger.

Has this changed here in TX. with any recent legislation?

Bottom line, you can't take a human live in defense of property...human life is another matter and it HAS to be an IMMEDIATE threat.

It still burns my ass, Doug.:flaming:

Oh dear this is gonna get bumpy:rolleyes: . Wrong Okey, Texas has nightime laws and at night it is legal to use deadly force to stop certain offenses such as trespass, protection of property etc.. There are a few cases of residents shooting repo men legally on their property at night. Good point on shooting a thief in the back as they are leaving though, whistle first:evil .

Let's see some TX case-law decisions supporting your POV.

That was just what I was "spoon-fed" when I was in the "Big-House". Now, I'm enlightnened.

Don't get me wrong, I want thieving b@stards to feel the pain as I've felt x 10! :evil

You ain't enlightent, you full of ****:D .I don't have time to dig up crap to appease you. Here it is in black and white out of my Texas Penal code book.:hammer: As you can see Texas is a very liberal state when it come to killing someone taking your property. It clearly states nightime protection of land or property. The next paragraph about protection of a third partys property. Out in Terrell about 8 years ago there was a repo man taking a car at night. A neighbor who thought the car was being stolen told the driver to stop. When he tried to drive off the neighbor regualted on him with an AR-15, not guilty criminaly, not sure about the civil outcome. It is not the criminal you have to worry about it is the civil, the same system that found OJ giulty for millions. Even though he was found innocent in the criminal case.

Perfect scenario for a good ole ass kicking. But unfortunately, you've got to catch then first. So was your truck at home or work?

It was in the parking garage at work

The ass kicking or the Smith and Wesson only works if you catch them....

Dont you guys figure that if I saw someone ****ing up my door handles I would take care of the issue ?

I still need to figure out what they did to the door that screwed up the chimes and the remote beep after you lock the door a second time...

I use Monitronics on my house. They have a deal where they'll upgrade your current system(control box and keypads) to theirs for free when you sign a 3 year agreement. And if you're missing any motion sensors they'll take care of those too. It's like 27 bucks a month which after 3 years the equipment is paid for and you can negotiate a better price. Also, if you're alarm is new enough, they can use it and it will be alot less. They'll put up a yard sign, leave plenty of window stickers to put where ever you want and I even got another yard sign from Monitronics themselves. The unit has the ability to use numerous access codes for kids, house maids etc.

:rolleyes::D

I only stated what they taught in law-school, not that I ever believed it.

I've always understood that Texas was always more liberal towards armed defense of life/property both in legislation and legal precedent.

Maybe we need to get Everett Newton on here. :D
