View Full Version : Nitto DRs on our trucks ... as everyday tire?

Hey guys,

I have Nitto DRs on my Z06 and they work great. But that car _never_ sees the rain, and its F/R weight bias is certainly a lot better than the Lightning.

So for those of you who have experience with these on the street...can I have your impressions?

FWIW, I do not have to drive the truck in the rain that often. I have another vehicle for those days when its a torrential downpour outside. But I don't want to be worried if I get caught in an occassional rain shower...and yes, I drive slow and cautious in the wet.

I use DR's on my L and never had a problem when I drive cautious. However, if the roads are wet or slick and you give it some gas they will spin ya around. If ya drive slow then you shouldnt have any problems

They are a compramise in life span and wet driving. They actually grip better in the rain but their problem is hydro planing not grip. They also like to attract nails and shrapnel. Lifespan is 5-8K miles

Mine handled great in the rain while I was on my way back from HRP lastnight.
My buddy that was trailing me @ 75-80MPH said my truck sprayed more water than an 18 wheeler.

Oh yeah they throw rocks all over the folks behind you as well. DR's are last on TALON convoys!

Like I said, I have these very same tires (different size, of course) on my Z06. I realize they won't last long. I really don't care. I just haven't had the Vette in the rain at all, so I was wondering more about wet weather issues.

Appreciate the responses, guys. You answered my questions. Thanks!

Their problem is hydro planing not grip.

I have first hand experience with hydro planing on tires if we all remember what happend to the silver Lightning. End result 25 stitchs and this picture.

Ive been driving mine back and forth to work everyday (40 miles round trip) and with all this rain, ive had no problems at all with the DR's. I just drive very carefully.

Wes,
Which wheels did you wind up going with. From the sound of it, I'm guessing some sort of custom built wheel....HRE's perhaps?;)

went with exactly what you recommended, Rob.

HRE 645R's with brushed centers and chromed outer rims. They were doing the chroming late last week, so hopefully they will ship towards the end of this week.

HRE's are what all custom wheels wish they could be. I am mounting some all chrome 541R's on a C6 this week:cool: .
