I have a small cheap Sony digital camera and also have 2 different video cameras... but I was wanting to get rid of them all and just have one nice camera. Do they make a digital camera that is also a digital video camera? My camera has a video clip option, it even records sound... but the quality isnt anything special
i know cameras can get REAL expensive, but im not wanting a $2,000 camera.... just a nice family camera that has GREAT quality.... id like it to be able to switch lens, etc ..... do they make anything like this under $500 or am I asking too much for too little
Great Quality pics
Great Quality video
good zoom
capable of switching lens
im not very camera literate, so figure someone here will chime in....

I don't know what it costs because I got it as a gift but I have a Sony dig camera with video. It has memory stick and tape. It also has the swing out screen for shooting/viewing. I have seen comperable units at Circuit City for $700-$800.

I think you are going to have a tough time finding an all in one solution for this one, especially with the interchangeable lenses. Your best bet would probably be to get a camcorder that can record pictures to some type of media card. For better photo capabilites, make sure the ccd is at least 2 megapixels. That way you can print the picture out to an 8x10 with decent quality. Of course there is more to it than all of this, but just do some research on the web and you should be able to find something that will work for you.
As for me, I'm waiting for more solutions like this.

Great idea I think. I really like the idea of not having the tape, but this piece of equipment misses some of the more advanced features.

I've got a Minolta DiMage Z1, and I LOVE the thing! Fast focus, 3.2 megapixel, lots of space on the SD cards (which are fairly cheap), and the ability to make movies with sound. It also has 10x optical zoom, with 40x digital zoom what is quite good in and of itself. Included are a USB cable for transferring to a PC and a USD-to-video/sound cable to plug into the TV for a slide show. It also runs off 4-AA batteries, and a set of rechargeables isn't expensive. I gave about $300 for mine, and the price has come down considerably, since they have the Z2 out now, similar body and even more features, plus 4.2 megapix.

I bought a Nikon D70 which is 6.3 megapixels. It takes awesome pictures and are crystal clear no matter how big you blow them up. Also you can change lenses so that you can use whatever zoom you want. Not sure if you want to spend this much but. I always say if your going to get something why not spend alittle more and get the best. With that being said I am still wondering why I bought a FORD. LOL :hammer:

The D70 is sweet. I have a Digital Rebel and I'll be using it in Hallsville. But since they are DSLR, they don't do movies.
