had a blast and nice meeting some of you guys for the first time... saw quite a few new personal bests today.....

p.s. Tom, so were the clocks at Hallsville acurate? Did they match up well with what the cop said??? :d

His radar seemed to be a little low. I was tooling along minding my own business when highway patrol pulls me over. 73 in a 65 is what I get dinged for. Looks like I took this one for the team. Dammit...what a crappy way to end a good day...

That sucks!!!!!! big time. Sorry to hear it. I ran 73/74 all the way back, got close to D and ran into a stretch of 10 miles where there were 5 cops with ppl pulled over.

BAD COPS----Speed Traps suck!!!!!!!

I too had another great time with you TALON guys!

I hate that the track left lane sucked soo bad at the end!!! That hurt a bunch of normally really consistent guys (Ron, Adam, and Mark). I only had to run one real race and got my ass handed to me but at least it was a TALON guy (TrueBlueAggie) and someone who had been trying a long time to get his big win!

Congrats Micheal!!!

Now I just gotta get my truck dyno tuned so Terry :bows can squeeze that last couple of tenths out of it for me and get into the low 12's.

It was fun being at the track with everyone.............knana . Hopefully everyone made it home without any problems.

73 in a 65?????????????????? I would have ended up getting shot by that cop:mad: .

IMHO....that is about the most cheese dick ticket I have heard of. Everyone knows 65 is just the suggested speed..........75 is recommended. What happened to the 10 mph courtesy???

You caused me to look at my slips. All my wins happened to be in the right lane:rolleyes: . My loss was in the left lane........that just sucks.

A few of us went to Hallsville about a month ago. The track was like greased owl sh!t. The track owner keeps bragging about the great new way he is prepping the track:rolleyes:   . I have a feeling the conditions are going to stay as they are. I may give it one more go, but if I run into the same crap again...I won't be back there.

Tommy, I'm just glad that we did not spin in the Final Round. I have a mpeg file of the final, but I cannot post it because of size. (19,000 KB).

Talon took all the bracket racing trophies! There were only Talon members in the last 5 racers (Mark #2, SonicBlueTommy, Rocks, Stormshadow, and me) :tu: That was the best part of the day. Dennis, how many did we have show up to the race today???

Scott, once again.....you did a kick ass job on the trophies. I had the chance to check it out when I got to the house, and it is just too cool.

And thanks to Terry for giving my wife cash to buy lunch for herself. I'm sure that $5 will be added to my next labor bill at Christmas time.....:tu:

Yep. Great to meet up with you guys today. Guess I missed some excitement on the way home? I got mine going out there, though. Fortunately the ossifer let me off with just a warning.

I did see a few cops on the way home, but I guess since I left early I got lucky. Was typically running near 80 all the way.

Oh yeah... I guess one of the most exciting thing for me today was a front view of that car that flipped over the guardrail. Fortunately, I wasn't hot-shoeing it down the return road. I was ~300' from him. I saw him come over the wall...just nailed the brakes. It was eerie b/c it appeared like it was in slow-motion, but I had no idea how far he would come barrel-rolling towards me. Impossible to get any kind of perception of the speed.

What's ridiculous is that it was a high-11 second car. Give me a break. No way that thing should be _that_ out of control if it had been sorted out at all. Then to hear the guy talking like it was "loose all day". Fortunately, he's ok. The roll cage saved him.

By the way...........I want to give a special tahnks to the Folks from LA, Arkansas and Houston, who made the very long trip to help us make the Talon Fall Classic a success. It was great to see you folks again.

I hope to see some of you when FFW fires up again. LA is going to seem like a run down the street compared to the drive to Jersey and New Hamshire. Welcome to the schedule:beer:

Great pic, Doug. Actually those guys have that car sorted out very well. Any more power to it, or lack of attention to the suspension and it would have been dragging the rear bumper, which would most certainly mean when it came back down the oil pan would have come through the motor. :eek2:

The car went straight every time I saw it go down the track. Impressive.

Traction was not that bad until about 6:00pm for me. That was the first time I spun today. Also probably did not help that we ran at 6:00, 6:15, and 6:25 to get the event done.....there was water everywhere in that Left Lane. I did run my fastest time today though in the Left Lane. But I think it was because I was the 4th person down the track this morning...

I agree with Doug 100%. Yes, its an hour closer. But you get way fewer runs in, the pit area is very crowded, the racers down there (at least on a "street day/night") suck now.

I raced there for 6-7 years from '92-98+ and it has gone downhill bad. On a Friday night you are lucky to get 2-3 passes in... over a 5 hour period. The staging lanes are a 1/4 mile long, so you end up pushing your vehicle through that just to keep it semi-cool. Way too many ricers with attitudes.

Personally, I don't go there anymore except as a spectator for the O'Reilly Fall Nationals every year.

Now that I have slept and cooled down a but over the 8MPH-over speed limit ticket, I can say that I had an absolute blast down there with you guys. I wish I could have put a few more faces with screen names, but I did catch a few. Thanks to Tommy's peer pressure that I succumed to I was able to get a few more passes in.

I would also like to express my appreciation for all of the out of towners that made the trip out. Those geys had to travel quite a ways to participate in out event, and it is always good to meet up with other owners.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to next year!

It's actually funny when you look at our 60's. You had a 2.14 and mine was a 2.385. Those sound more like 60's from a stock Lightning race...:rll: , not a couple of 11 second trucks.

What saved my butt was the reaction times.... I cut a fairly decent light on that run .530 to your .627. I actually thought I had lost when I started to spin, I was not even looking at your truck....I couldn't figure out how the heck I caught you. When I got to the pits, I sk Howard how the hell I had won that round...that's when he told me your truck had broke loose also.

The round after that, I could not even get my tires to smoke because of all the darned water in that lane...

Let's just say it...Hallsville sucked at track prep yesterday. The dip sh!t working the water box had his head tucked squarely up his ass, with no intention of ever pulling it out. Next trip out there, I am bringing the head pullers. He should be able to use them.

Justin,

I was just wanting to get a few virgin passes in with my truck. I haven't bracket raced in, gosh... 10 years maybe. 90% of the racing I did with my old Mustang was heads-up/Shootout style.

I would have been an easy 1st round win for someone. I chose to just run time-trials.

Oh, you don't have to explain. I was just hoping we would have had 100% attendance for the class. I haven't raced this year, 1st time with my Gen 1, but I was hoping for a shot in the dark. I went out in first round, but didn't buy back in. Just wanted to give it a shot and also give the club an extra $15 to help pay for whatever the club needs. Just hope to have a bigger attendance next time.

The best I managed all day was an 11.89  6 runs, 3 smoking the tires and letting off... and 3 sorry ass slow 11s... 11.89 11.90 and 11.96... I had high expectations of barely getting into the 12's for the first time, but something went wrong with the Truck and just wouldn't go.

There are some great looking trucks that can go really fast out there... It was funny to see the ricers make a run after the L's went through. Seemed like they went in slow motion.

Also wanted to thank SixPipes and Silver2000 for their work in putting the event together.

You did the right thing by not trying to push it at the track. We had several experienced guys there that couldn't figure out what the deal was either. Detonation is not something to mess with on a forced induction vehicle. I've already talked to Flats Man about it and we'll see what we can do about getting everything sorted out.

I'm actually very perplexed by what's going on with the truck. Let me ask you something about the boost gauge... does it read vacuum? Does it make boost (according to the gauge) and then you see it drop off? Or does it just never show boost on the gauge?

Mechanically we know there is no way for that thing to dump boost. None. Even a massive air leak (vacuum lines off, etc) at the manifold would not allow all the boost pressure to escape (been there, done that). The truck would also idle and drive poorly under part throttle conditions... and it doesn't from what you guys said.

If the gauge is reading vacuum, then we have to assume it is functioning properly. If so, then it may very well be a situation where the blower is screwed up again. I know it was just rebuilt. However, Powerdyne blowers are notorious for shredding their kevlar belts. That is not a gear-driven blower, like a Vortech or Paxton NOVI. You could still spin the main shaft and it would not be making any boost. Honestly, this makes some sense to me b/c the trap speeds were so low on the truck, compared to what it should be running. You're down 150hp easily (103mph to 88mph), and the only thing that makes that big of a difference on that truck is the blower.

This does not explain the detonation issue, however.

We discussed checking the in-line fuel pump. That would be mandatory, AND the truck might still ping at WOT even if the blower _isn't_ working... b/c the stock pumps are 10yrs old (we assume) and would be pushing through a dead pump (no problem at idle and part throttle).

The other thing that I noticed that bothered me is that it has 42lb injectors AND an FMU. This setup will certainly starve even the functioning in-line pump. You would need one of those huge Aeromotive pumps and aftermarket fuel lines (larger diameter) to be able to supply the fuel to the injectors at a given pressure over an entire run. I don't know how the FMU is calibrated, but really it is completely unnecessary at the power level you are at (would easily support 120mph in the truck). Since the MAF is calibrated for 42s an the truck runs fine under normal driving conditions, if it were me I would remove the FMU, taking it out of the equation as a potential faulty part. A boost referenced regulator mounted to the stock fuel rails would be the best way to go. It will spike the fuel pressure at a 1:1 ratio and that's all you'd need with those big injectors.

Just some thoughts. I've worked on those things (centrifugally blown EFI Fords) so long, I was disappointed I couldn't figure it out right on the spot.

Great suggestions Wes. We'll definitely check the blower belt (Flats Man agrees on that one). The weird thing is the detonation if the blower is not working. So we're probably talking about two different problems manifesting themselves at the same time, but each dependent of the other. Maybe we'll check the blower belt and remove the FMU and see what gives.

Dennis,

Understand that I'm referring to the kevlar belts inside the blower housing itself.

Thing is, even if it was detonating... the truck would have run faster than 88mph if the blower was working...unless you guys were just coasting down the track, which I don't believe you were.

It could get some detonation at WOT without the blower if 1) the inline pump is not functioning, or 2) the FMU is spiking the fuel pressure so high, that coupled with the large 42lb injectors, the fuel pump(s) are starving once you hit 2nd gear.

Hope its a quick, easy fix and not too much $$

Congratulations on a great turnout and a lot of nice L's. TALON and Dennis did a great job with this event. I had a great time visiting, but wish I had more time to chat with everyone and meet more of the people I did not know. I was in area visiting family and therefore needed to leave track early.

I was surprised to see the two late model Chevy trucks running so well. One was running low-mid 12's and the other low 13's. Must have had lots of spray. Whatever it was, they were running suprising well.

I was having trouble with my truck and withdrew early. Motor was not running right and tranny shifting early. Thought I had fried some plugs on my first pass, and no sure why tranny was shifting early. I was not sure what was wrong and I was scared to flog it further; I did not want to walk home!

Turns out I got a few gallons of bad gas on the way to track and a second BIG dose at same pump before heading home Apparantly a lot of water was in the gas; trouble went away when I finished that tank and refilled. Not sure why tranny was shifting early, but it seems better now, chip may have not been making good contact or it may hve been the water. AFR meter was pegged until I got new fuel.

Hey Wes,
Thank you so much for your valuable input and I think you are probably right on. I thought it strange that when I put the 42's in the truck that I was told to leave the FMU in place especially with the Pro-M Mass Air. The tank that we were running on was the forward tank which has a new 255 lph pump and the one on the frame rail is a new 255 Walbro. I am thinking the one in the tank my be dead because of some install issues I had with it here in Florida. I think the FMU will dissappear as per your suggestions. The boost gauge shows vacuum and not just positive boost. I think the little Powerdyne is a great little blower for playing around on the street but I am not impressed with it for racing!! Me and Dennis and Trevor are discussing some major changes to Bluto in the near future and as soon as I have my Ducks in a row, I will let everyone know. I will be flying out there toward the end of the month to sort a few things out and to probably take the blower off and send it back for another rebuild. The FMU will be coming off as well. I will check to see that if the upper is turning, the lower should be as well! I will post what I find! Thanks again!

I actually like the way the PD blower is run compared to the Vortech I had. The Vortech utilizes the water pump pulley (they supply one that is much thicker, as in out towards the fan shroud) as an extra tensioner for the long, long belt that is run. This puts more stress on the water pump bearings, and certainly will lead to premature failure.

If the gauge is showing vacuum, but not boost, then I strongly suspect the internal kevlar belt(s) in the blower housing itself are shot. If the blower was operating properly, it would certainly be making some boost.

With those nice aluminum heads on there, it should be able to make 8-9psi with no issues regarding detonation, as long as timing is on spot, and the fuel supply is there.

A Walbro 255lph pump should be plenty to supply the potential power out of that combo. You guys will have it in the 12s in no time, I'm sure.

Maybe he did later on. I only saw one run and it was a mid-12 @ 109-111mph or something like that. He could have turned the boost up and gotten in the 11s for sure.

Dennis, Do you still have the slip from our race? (first race of the day) I lost mine and it was my PB. I want to post it up and I'd like to be able to back up the time with the slip.

I was actually only running 1/8 .. that's why it was only 13's. I had a driveshaft come out from under me last time out and I still have a little vibration going on once I get up to 100.

On TT's 11 second run, I heard him spinning all the way passed the 60' mark. I bet ya'll would find that one hard to believe though. :d

I blew up a driveshaft in an old Mustang I used to race. Have you had your new driveshaft balanced? Be careful, man. May also want to check the output shaft on the transmission.

I don't find it hard to believe TT's truck would be spinning past 60'. He'll whip my L's butt. I'll have to bring out the sleeper to race him. ;)

But really an 11.8 running 114mph through the traps is an excellent ET for the trap speed.

I've actually thought about that! It started when I put a new trans in, but I also had the driveshaft redone with a new yoke on the front and balanced. I also went with new gears in the rear end. In other words the entire driveline was changed up. After that shaft came out, I put a new one in that was balanced and all nicely. It still had the same vibration in it. I took it to a trans friend of mne and one of his hands found about a half inch of slack in the rear. He tightened up the nut on the pinion gear, but it wouldn't turn after that so we loosened it back up a hair. I need to get it back over and have the gears reset. I'm hopig its as siple as that.

Although ... the trans came from a wrecking yard. I don't have a clue about what happened to the truck. For all I know it could have been a bad rear end or a T bone wreck that pt a lot of stress on the driveshaft.

Anyways .. I didn't get to see ya'll run much, bu I did see a few of them run. I gotta admit, there were some nice looking trucks out there. I would have been shooting for a few of ya'll had I not had to worr about my driveshaft. :burnout: Some of he trucks I saw were pretty damn ipressive too.

;) actually i don't have a turbo but rather a soon to be replaced (hopefully if the bank account allows it) blowcharger. the POS throws the belt all the time when i lift. no NOS either. beyond that, the motor is far from stock not to mention the tranny. wait a minute! i can't let all the goods out!
