I have a standard 2 car garage with the regular concrete floor. The house/garage was built in 1998. I am going to remove everything out of garage to clean various stains ECT. I firgure I might as well do something with the floor. What can I do to the concrete to make it look nice. I cant afford tile or anything expensive. Needs to be no more than 200$. I see various paint/epox stuff at Home Depot. Anyone have expierence with it? Will it cover stains and various marks that I can not clean off floor?

What ever you suggest.I need these requirments from the product.

Needs to cover stains in concrete I cant clean out.

Do not want the surface to be any slicker than the original concret finish. Wife wears high heels alot and does not want to any smoother/slicker than it is now.

Do not want it to peel up. I saw a garage that was just painted and after 1 year all the paint just started to peel up and was a mess.

I want to be able to clean spills and wash the floor with soap and garden hose with the finish not getting remove or peelling.

Needs to last atleast 7 years.
What you people suggest?

I know there is something out there that is kind of like rino-lining but specifically for adhesion to concrete. I have seen it in a garage before! The owner had the chevy bowtie made into it with the same stuff but a contrasting color. It was cool!

Sorry for the vagueness(sp). I just know that I have seen this before!

Great question, I've been thinking about the same thing....

Right now I'm looking at either the speckled epoxy coating they sell at Lowes or possible doing a black and white checkerboard vinyl tile depending on cost. I've also seen some of the concrete stains that are available to be pretty impressive. The stain would probably be the cheapest way out.

I would like the black and white Vinyl tile too. But I am afraid it was made to walk on rahter than driving a car on it.Any other low cost ideas?

Here's the speckled stuff people are referring to. (I assume anyway)

http://www.lowes.com/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=16697-000000090-203005

and here:

http://www.rustoleum.com/EPOXYShield_Tips.asp?TipType=G#WNTA

It's made by Rustoleum and is supposed to be good stuff. I wanted to use it on my garage floor, but the only drawback is this:

"Surface should be ready for light foot traffic in 12-16 hours, heavy items and normal foot traffic in 24-48 hours. FOR FULL CURE AND VEHICLE TRAFFIC, ALLOW 7 DAYS. Temperature and humidity may affect actual dry time. "

I just don't see me parking my baby outside for 7 days. Just not going to happen.

I've used 3 types of paints and they all come up after a while. Granted my garage gets a lot of use but you'll be unhappy within a year when the stuff doesn't last.

I've done extensive research on the subject. I've looked at about six different types of coatings/tiles and have come to the conclusion this is the best option and cost (3.75 sq ft).

I plan on doing mine in March.

I've done extensive research on this also.

That is why my floors are uncoated.

Everything that you put down yourself comes off.
Everything coated is slicker than bare concrete.
Tiles are slicker than snot when wet with water, oil, antifreeze, etc.
The roll out is not that nice.

I am still open to ideas, but for now, no coating for me.
The stuff in Firehouses is the same as what Steve posted and is the best I have seen.

Agree, but $3.75/ft2. Thats $1815.00 for a standard 2 car garage. That's half a shortblock just to look purty.

thats a standard 2 car garage size? From my experience: Old standard was 22x22, then 20x22, then 20x20, now
apparently 18x20.

This is how I managed to build the WWFB garage.

So you guys are saying the coatings that are sold at Loews and Home Depot are not worth getting? They will peel, flake off in a couple of years?

well for $50, if it takes a year or two to flake or peel a little thats ok.... just touch it up in spots... heck its only $50

They'll come off within a year and won't last that long if you don't clean and etch the concrete. I'm not wasting my money again.

I've used the more expensive paint solutions ($300-$400) and same situation.

I have heard that the product sold by Griots Garage really works and stays down... not exactly cheap, but it works www.griotsgarage.com

You might want to look at this too.. you can get it with flecks or just add some fine silica sand and it will be grippy..
