The news said they are making 12 senior officers pay back 9 million total in bonuses for last year. They supposedly inflated growth for last year. Does this ever stop... Who the hell gets that much in bonuses:eek: :hammer:

From what I understand those are the officers that got canned last year. They just need to pay back what they didn't deserve. Big corporate management sometimes gets bonuses equaling well over 100% of their salaries at times. Makes me feel small when I get an 8% bonus....:hammer:

I believe that a bonus is considered some type of monetary reward for a job well done. I don't know first hand though.

Elaine and I have both worked for telecoms throughout the years (WorldCom and Williams Communications / WilTel when we first met). We lost more than I care to think about. Oh well, it's only $$!
I hope they nail Bernard Ebbers and Howard Jantzen to the barn-door, eventually! :throw:I've actually ran into HJ at the Bank of OK. Tower in Tulsa leaving the cafeteria. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif I believe Elaine's part of the WCOM class-action, I'll have to check.

Raises and/or bonuses are few and far in between in the IT/Telecom industry - almost non-existent any more. Just consider yourselves lucky you have jobs! Plenty of add'l reading material here, btw: http://www.****edcompany.com/ http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

Sort of off-topic but notable, one of my groomsmen has left GM Eng./Mgt. program after 5+ yrs in the corp. world to run his Dad's 800+ acre ranch back in SE OK. He's been "disenchanted" with the entire corporate/GMI experience, since. He almost hated it! But he's happy now with a wife and 2 healthy boys running his parent's ranch.:)

Another OU college-friend is leaving the corporate CPA world (Williams Energy in Tulsa, no less) to his 20 acre house-place outside of Muskogee to raise his family and possibly work on the BNSF rail-road and build a home.

Just makes me think - I'm tired of this corporate chicanery and I'm considering the "switch" too.

Apologies for the "War and Peace" novel.

For what its worth, I think bonuses are a good thing.

At my employer, there is a bonus system for every employee. every one. for the staff folks they can earn $256 per year if we do well. It isnt much but its more than nothing. The managers are eligible for 5% of salary, the directors 7% of salary and folks like myself 10% of salary. I dont know what the big wigs get. I also have a separate bonus structure from the above.

If someone can effect the type of change that impacts a companies bottom line positively, then I say give them a percent of it. But the numbers should be audited before the payment happens.
Our physicians have incentive pay via their compensation plan. I think its a good thing.

So its not all bad. But I can also understand why some leave the corporate world and go run a farm, or a diner, or any of a lot of small businesses.. They want a simpler life and want to have some feeling of control over their life.

I guess I’ve got nothing to complain about. Last year our company gave every employee an 18% bonus of their annual salary as long as they got a “met expectations” on their annual review. They have been doing this for more than 10 years. Rumor has it this years bonus is going to be even bigger.

What is a bonus?

I honestly believe it is something that management gets and front line workers do not. Why would the people most responsible for the work that affects the bottom line need any incentives?
