It's been 3000 miles since my last oil change in August. I've used 6 quarts of Mobil 1 5w-30 for the last several oil changes and that fills the dip stick perfectly to the top side of the fill zone. Following some others recommendations I used the Mobile 1 0w-20 this time. I filled it up with the normal 6 quarts like always and drove to the bank and came back and parked in the garage. Giving time for the oil to settle down into the crankcase I check it and it was only half way up the dipstick fill zone, so 1/2 quart low.
This seems to go against logic because you would think that the thicker oil would drain less into the crankcase than the thinner oil, therefore the thinner oil should read higher on the dipstick not 1/2 quart lower.
