Scott

You MIGHT be able to get it heliarced - Assuming its aluminum. BUT it will take a REALLY good - REALLY good aluminum welder to weld the cast piece.

No ebay discounts here...

If its weldable - The tough part will be welding it so that the holes end up in the same spot....

Make a jig for the welder to keep the holes in alignment and have the welder put in extra aluminum and then grind it back to the original shape and polish it! You have too much work in that piece to trash it!!

Look in the phone book under welding or call a company called Praxair (welding supply), they can recommend some good ppl to help out. And only let a welder use TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) or Heliarc (same thing just a trade name used by the company (ESAB) that invented the process) to weld it. Stick welding cast alum is nearly impossible because you never know what type or quality the aluminum is. As mentioned above you will also HAVE to make a jig to prevent warpage even with tig welding. You can do most of the clean up and repolishing yourself to save some money but it well still prob cost you 50-100 bucks to get this done.

That would be a nice looking piece if fixed by the way!

Just out of curiosity Bobby, what process, position, filler and amperage are you certified for?

Nothing wrong with JB weld, it will hold forever in that application.

a half inch rod is definitly big!

anymore i like to use the tig the most just because it is more challenging than the rest. aluminum is tricky with tig but once you get the hang of it easy as cake.

i was just curious about the other welders here ;)

Yes TIg is my choice of welder also I use it for everything but I usually just use a 1/16 filler rod most of the time with a 5/32 tungston and a 3/8 cup!
