Has anyone here bought the aluminum racing jack at Harbor Freight? The one selling for $80 bucks right now? And will it jack up the truck high enough for good use.

I have tried to use inexpensive floor jacks before and they dont go high enough to be of any good use.. what do you guys use?

If that's the red one, I have the same jack.............works great and is light weight.

A jack is one thing I would never skimp on. 80 bucks screams...."I am too darned cheap, something is wrong with me".

I bought this one, and with a discount coupon and free replacement warrentee, I walked out the door for $60. It works great, we will see for how long.

Does it lift the L high enough?... that has been my biggest problem is that I have to really research the height it will reach to be able to make room underneath or just to get the wheels off the ground.

Be careful with the inexpensive jacks fellows. I am sure they are not all bad, but I had bought one from Pep Boys a couple years back at a great price. It almost cost me a right leg out at the track. The jack collapsed while I had the front tire half way off.The rotor just caught the edge of the wheel enough to stop the truck about one inch above my leg. This is not a made up story...it was out at Ennis and a few fellows around here witnessed it.

Just be careful...our trucks are heavy...as they say...stuff happens.

Where were your jack stands?

Guilty as Charged. The jack stands where at home in my garage. It is usually too much hassle to take jack stands to the track.

I learned a couple tricks that evening. One....never sit on your ass, straddling the wheels while taking them off. Two....cheap jacks are dangerous.

Believe it or not, before that episode happened to me, I used to change my fuel filter using just the jack. Not anymore....I no longer go under my truck without it sitting firmly on stands.

Lesson Learned....;)

Ive had my old civic come down on me. Luckily since it was so low i had to use the stock jack on the side to lift it up a bit to get a regular jack under the front. Well I slid under the side of the car with the stock jack just to look to see if my shifter arm bushing were breaking up and the front jack came came down and landed on the stock jack and bent the crap out of it. :hammer: It scared the hell out of me.

Now i am guilty at not using them at the track but changing rear slicks you arent realy under the truck.

Another "JackFailure" story.....You where about as lucky as I was. I have been told stories of folks not being so lucky:eek: .

Really.....who is going to use jack stands to change the tires at the track??? Heck...or anywhere else for that matter. But these darned jacks do fail sometimes.....the cheaper ones are usually less forgiving.
