What's up Beau? Looks like your having quite the conversation here. I guess there isn't much interest in Red Lightnings in this area. The few we have seen where slow. Heck...Ronald get's beat by Little Old Ladies driving Jeeps.

Can you really call that a Lightning anymore? I am not trying to be sarcastic or anything but does it have any orignal parts except for the body on it?

I agree completely. At some point, the vehicle simply becomes a purpose built race car.

I'm thinking the quickest L to date was Jason Brown's Red '95 monster (7.88@182) out of Florida, I believe. http://www.dragtruk.com/ENTRIES/3rd_14et.html
As far as fastest Gen. 2, I think that one belongs to Stan Martin/Ruslow. He runs all-out top-end in NV/TX/NE. I seem to remember somewhere he topped out at 168! http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/eek2.gif I'll have to email him and confirm.
I've actually had the honor of riding shotgun with Stan a few times at Hallett before I got the L. Afterwards, he would comment on how hard I was clenching the center-bar and door cage pieces. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/banana2.gifGood times!http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/bows.gif
Those roll-cages are noisy/creaky as all-hell under alot of flexing at varying speed, even with a helmet on with the windows down.
Stan's definitely a master of his craft.

Don't disagree with the logic, but it does have a Gen I Vin# unlike John Force's Mustang Funny Car.

I can just imagine Apu rocketing down the 1/4 in that Red monster screaming "Allah Akhbar!" http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/rofl2.gifThose Arabs seem to be all about the idolatry. http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif
As a follow-up, Stan's email says his top land-speed is 173 mph and 196 mph air-speed! http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/eek.gifhttp://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/bows.gif
Yes, the line between what a L, "modded" L and an all-out L race-rig is sometimes blurry.http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/cool.gif

I remember saying of the Red L's we see around here;) . What they have just proved, is that the red L owners in our group need to be ashamed of themselves for doing the Red color such an injustice. I know I am ashamed of them. Especially that guy who white knuckles it at 95 MPH:ron: .
Rocks:cool:

I would say you need to put a whipping on him, but I am afraid you'll let him beat you. You have to actually give it WOT to win a race.
Maybe Wes could race him in the other slow Red L our group has, he could lay an oil slick for him to slide on...:rll: . Maybe run some 12 + second quarter mile passes on built motor for him.

Hmmm....now Ron's talking the smack, when I recall him being worried a couple months ago and whining that he needs some heads etc cause he knew he was gonna get worked.
I'll get Terry to put 21* of timing in my tune and run 21 psi and I'm willing to bet I'll run low 11's. Keep in mind at Hallsville , those were the first passes the truck ever made, and those were on 13-14psi....more is coming, don't worry your pretty little head http://www.talonclub.com/forum/images/smilies/flthrow.gif
As far as an oil slick, maybe you could talk to your buddy Jim and see if he could put a motor together correctly....frankly it' not rocket science.

Haven't touched it yet. I've got the injectors and new fuel pump, just need to install them and reflash the ECU to run a little more boost. I think with some sticky tires it can hit an 11.....lord knows the 19's I was running at Kennedale weren't helping my awesome 2.1 and 2.2 60's :)

Probably a reference from this excerpt from a prevous thread...just doing what I can to clear up all the confusion. Looks like this poor guy will never sell his red Lightning. At least on this website. :evil
"Yes, my current one is sold. I wanted to get cams and ported heads. By the time I spent the money to take the motor out and do all that I wanted to it....I would have been real close to what I am out the new motor. The fellow that bought the old motor has the ability to get the heads and cams done for much less than I would have spent. He also isn't having to pay for R&R on the motor. So it works out good for two of us....."
