Steve,

What is your friend looking for... small, mid-size or large? There are _so_ many options for SUVs now. Quite honestly, they are nothing more than a glorified station-wagon from the '70's-80's...except that in _some_ cases they can tow.

SVT Lightning ... the _real_ Sport-Utility Vehicle.

If you need opinions on a Ford Expedition, I'll be happy to share. We've had ours for 5 years now.

Get an Audi RS4 station wagon. It's not an SUV, just better! If you need bigger go RS6 wagon Only problem there - $82,000.

VW Taureg's pretty cool, too. They are in the 300+ Hp. about 40 - 45,000 though.

Or an Escape hydrid.

While it does not have the quality of an Audi, the new Dodge Magnum SRT-8 will be the wagon to own. It will easily do low-13s @ 108-110mph in the 1/4 stock (425hp)...and haul 5 people and stuff in the trunk. And it will cost in the low-$40s.

Brand new or used? I like 96-00 Tahoes and Yukons. You can get a nice one well under 10K. Exploders suck, Expeditions are okay if they have the E4OD tranny. Ford V8's get poor fuel economy.

I should have know better to ask a bunch of HP crazed individuals:cool:

I'm looking more in the mid-size 20-25k range with like a V6- its purpose is to haul kids not arse

Me personally would drive either a Toyota 4Runner or the supercharged Nissan Xterra. Good looking, not too big, dependable.

Last time I was in Muenster Tx there was an older Unimog for sale. Pick up model, not the SUV.
